Let me guess the now defunct Warner Communications, sold Verona this EDACs mess. And I believe they were also responsible for that fiasco P25 Trunk System in Montclair too. Pinnacle Wireless bought out Warner if I am not mistaken.

Both systems suffer from the same problem - poor choice of main transmitter/receiver site.

Verona should have continued to use the water tank site on Fairway Avenue instead of the lower, self supporting tower on Bloomfield Avenue, and Montclair should have never picked a high site that was on the northwestern edge of their intended coverage area (it should have been placed square in the middle of Montclair Center instead with multiple satellite receivers - I understand that Glen Ridge's repeater covers Montclair perfectly).

I live in West Caldwell area and receive Verona's system on my homepatrol but it's spotty
Glad to see the pd finally do something about it since it comes down to a officer safety issue
Further more my department our It person is a sworn officer not a civilian . What was he doiing
Any way viewing a police a confidential interview since He's not a officer ?

Isn't Glen Ridge's repeater on top of Mountainside Hospital? I get perfect reception of Glen Ridge PD from my house in West Orange. I don't have a digital scanner so I can't attest to the Montclair TRS. Montclair FD is scratchy from my location.

Yes; the Glen Ridge PD repeater is on top of Mountainside Hospital.

Verona had a wonderful system which I listened to when I began scanning in the early 70's. That system KEA-963 as it was known utilized 45.180 mhz simplex. It had built-in mutual aid capability as Cedar Grove, Glen Ridge, North Caldwell, Fairfield, and the Essex County jail annex PD all shared the same frequency. Verona FD and EMS on 33.780 mhz also worked well. Newer is not always better...

Does anybody use any of those old VHF frequencies anymore? When I'm really bored I have custom searches programmed in but never hear anything down there except when it gets stuck on something.

Verona fire and the rescue squad still use 33.780 for dispatch. There are some members that still use pagers.
