Here are my two old school scanners i just got not long ago. The top one is a Patrolman 2026 w/ a discriminator tap in it waiting for my data slicer to get here. The scanner on the bottom is a pro 2010 takin care of all the vhf stuff. The space on the top is reserved for the 996T that i plan on getting very soon . The antennas i have up are a diamond X-50a and a homebrew scanner antenna i made from welding rods ( will post pics of them soon ) I just got back into the hobby and i figured id get the basics covered for before i go get the BIG boy 996T.

Happy scanning
Dan

Not bad at all. Simple and neat. I think your shack is off to a great start. But beware.. You have two scanners.. before long, they will multiply. You will soon have 4 or 5.. They're like rabbits man...

Thanks for the comments.

Well once i get the 996T that will be it for a while , Id like to get the yeasu quad bander one of these days if not that just a good dual band rig would safice. I have my tech ticket ( KC8ONR ) I have been off the air for quite some time now and have decided since im gonna be spendin more time at home due to the better half going back to school ( RN ) i may as well get into the swing of things again.

Thanks again for the comments ill keep the pics updated as the shack grows little by little

yeah thats true. next thing you'll know you want your handhelds mounted, and then you'll get some more, and more, and then have to add to your desk.

I wish my shack could look like that. my desk is WAY too messy to put up on the net.

A nice start.. I'll watch for a post a couple years from now where you have a new larger desk, or two desks, and a dozen scanners and radios.. lol

Mine is up on here now, its still pretty basic and clean. I look at the pictures of the guys with a dozen scanners and wonder why? I guess in some areas there is more to listen to. Around where i live one scanner is enough, all analog, no trunking, and you can take a nap inbetween dispatch calls.

Besides, i like to spend more time talking!

Next thing you know you will want a tower too..

no need for a tower here ... Im 1300 feet in the air just on the hill i live on ( st rt 250 in ohio ) , the only bad thing is the towers around me that range from cell phone towers to a TV station tower that i can see from my house about a mile away. Kinda worried about the interference from all the towers and such around. I had planned on a tower ( even found an old Rohn used by a water pump station that was taken out of service ) but i figured that since im so high up anyway it would just be a waste of money. I just installed a heavy duty pole on the chimney and attached the antennas to that, when i had my icom icv8000 I hit any reapeater in the valley that i wanted ( darn good radio ) but things happen and the toys must go sometimes ( life sucks sometimes ) but all is well now and I plan on getting some nice gear. Only need one scanner around here also but i would like my 996T ( when i get it ) to be dedicated to the trunking systems around ( Wheeling wv , belmont county Ohio , and such ) and the others to be dedicated to VHF and UHF conventional ( basically used for paging only ) There are a few PS departments still using VHF for daily use but most of it is on trunking systems. The departments using conventional are rumored to be going to trunking after the rebanding but unsure how true that is. As far as getting a bigger desk ..nah the better half yells at me for the stuff i got now, just getting the 996T is going to be a feat in its own :)

man can i ramble or what ...lol

I remember when i had a chimney mount mast, had to take it down because the chimney started crumbling from the added weight of a 8ft mast and a dual bander on the top.

Then i went to a power pole next to the shack window. That was a fun hole to dig also! I had a mast on the pole that was hinged about 6ft off the ground and a pulley at the top to pull up the mast, along with a cheap boat trailer winch on the other side i could raise and lower it all i wanted.

Anyway, that was up for about 5 years. I went to take the antennas off it last week to get ready for the tower and found the pole was farther along in condition than i thought, age wise. I got the antennas and the mast of as it started to crack at the base. Got everything off and gave it a push to start it in the right direction and it fell right over.. Good thing it waited until after i removed the antennas!! Got super lucky there.

Very nice and clean, simple, yet effective! I remember when my shack looked like that. Hes right, you have two scanners, they WILL multiply and may even mutate into tranceivers, mine did. They multiplied until the shelf started to sag!

...and you can take a nap inbetween dispatch calls.

I use my Kenwood TH77A to monitor the county VHF frequencies and its set to auto power down after an hour of inactivity, it usually powers down between calls and thats out of 4 PS channels and 3 amateur channels!

and so it begins , 2 scanners and now a radio .... lol .... you guys were right ... its like spring time in my office. Plant the seed of communications into a hobbiest and watch them grow!!

anyway the radio i just purchased is a Kenwood TK-372G will be used to talk on the local repeater in the valley ( the only uhf one that i know of ) also will be used to monitor the activities where i work.

996T is closer to getting here also but that wont be till uncle sam gives me my money back!!!

later all

Dawson,

You'll be proud to know that the 2010 was the first scanner that I ever owned. It was given to me as a Christmas present from my parents, when I lived in New Orleans, I'd say in 1988. I could reprogram those 20 channels in about 30 seconds, and I had about 20 index cards of frequencies with 20 channels each just ready to go in any situation.

I dreamed.. DREAMED, of having a Pro-2004, but it was way out of range then.

My 2010 ended up at a McDonalds in Virginia Beach. In high school/college, I became a manager at a McDonalds there, and I found it helpful to put that scanner in the grill area so we all could hear everything that was ordered (on 35.04 no less) - I left it there and I miss it dearly...!
