Try the Start Menu, click on Control Panel and go to EWF Configuration. I believe you can disable it from there

Does anybody know how to change the settings in Windows firewall on the TC 5710?
When I try to change the FW settings, it says this feature is not available.

My new USB WIFI won't connect to my router because it says it's "firewalled".

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike
if you have Sygate icon in your system tray
Right-click the Sygate icon in your system tray and choose “Disable Sygate Security Agent”
this will unblock you firewall

Well I got it !

Works great ..... after some time learning how to set it up and put a new image of XPE on the unit it works great!

Want to say thanks for all the helpful info you guys dished out!

Thanks again,

Dan

Here is the feed that is running thru the Thin Client Belmont County, Ohio Live Police, Fire, and EMS Scanners

Glad to hear it worked out well. I am curious what other anomalies you ran into in setting your machine up? I just bought one and will be migrating at least one of my feeds to it when it gets here. What scanner are you connecting? I noticed you do not have any channel information streaming with the feed.

It sounds good though.

Id like to stream the chaanel info but I dont think scanmiamivalley is setup for that unless there is a way I can do that myself, I dont know still new to this stuff ( streaming wise ). As far as the thin client goes after reading the info on this thread it wasnt hard at all. If you dont know anything about thin clients like myself then it can be pretty tough but just follow the info on here ( about the embedded XP ) and you will be just fine.

the channel info is easy depending on what scanner you are using. Most of the newer Unidens and GRE's can do it via several control programs.

I stream two Bearcat 245's using Talkgroup monitor and OddCast/EdCast. I stream two Bearcat 260D's using ProScan and OddCast/EdCast. I stream a Bearcat 245 with ID Tracker and OddCast/EdCast (This is a stereo feed with a Bearcat SportCat200 on the right channel loched to the main fire dispatch channel). And I also stream a Bearcat 296D using ID Tracker and OddCast/EdCast.

The GRE PSR500 and PSR600 can be streamed with WIN500 directly to the WIN500 Client or channel tags can be pulled from WIN500 and sent with a OddCast/EdCast stream.

I belive you can do the same with the newer Radio Shack scanners that are clones of the GRE PSR's, but the Pro-96 & 2096 and the bulk of the older RS line don't have serial ports to get data from.

Need XPe image

I got my T5700 but there appears to be no way to get it to the Admin user. I'm thinking I need to reload the OS into it but HP's website seems to not be working correctly. ANyone have sp29705.exe, the XPe install utility handy that they can send me?

Usually the default login/password is Administrator/Administrator. To get the admin login you have to hold the shift key while chooing Logoff, then should give you the ability to login.
If that does not work you can go to http://support.hp.com and download the XPe image and reflash

Cool little box, but apparently you can't install .NET Framework or XPe Service Pack 2 in 192 MB of flash. Looks like I need to replace the 192MB flash with a 256MB or 512MB. While I am in there I will probably yank the 256MB DOM. Anyone know if it can take larger than a 1GB DOM?

CE Thin Client

I found an excellent hardware setup for streaming. This involves any thin client that runs windows xp embedded. Mine specifically are a Termtek TK-3370 and a Wyse 941GXL. Both are 1ghz processor units, and have no moving parts. But the best part is they are LOW power consumption and are silent. They can be had for around 25-50 dollars depending on demand. You can run any windows xp compatible program from them, but just have to be careful on not filling up the flash memory. Mine came with 512meg, but can be upgraded to 1gig. Ive even heard of people loading regular XP on these.

Some other models are HP T5700.

Will this work for Thin Clients with Windows CE ?

Hi All..I just have a small question. Wouldn't a HP Mini 1010NR Netbook - Intel Atom Processor N270, 1.6GHz, 512MB DDR2, 8GB SSD, 8.9" WSVGA, Integrated Webcam, Microsoft® Windows® XP Home for 299.00 from TigerDirect work just as good or not better for streaming? I like the Thin Clients but they have no storage space. Could you use a SanDisk stick with a Portable App U3 program installed that would let you run programs from the stick plugged into the Thin Cients USB port? Has built in battery backup also..Seems like it should work..I would like to free up my computer for other things..Cheers..Keithmj

Yes... a netbook would certainly work as a streaming host.

The nice thing about the Thin Client, though, is it's designed to be a 24x7 network appliance. They're stripped down little boxes that run XP Embedded, they have no fan, no moving parts, and nothing much to break and nothing to patch.

They also have the advantage (well, it's a big advantage to me) of having the XPe Enhanced Write Filter installed... so unless you specifically authorize it, no changes to the internal flash disk are retained across reboots. This is great (a) for testing stuff (if you don't like the software you installed, you just reboot and it's gone), and (b) for a network connected device (malware? Ha! Reboot and it's gone).

All in all, a great little device to plug into the internet. Set it up and forget about it.

With 512MB of disk space, I find plenty of room for the .Net Framework and streaming server software. And yes, you can run programs off a plugged-in USB flash drive (in fact, I'm testing some software by doing that now).

Boy, I wish Microsoft would make XPe more generally available... lots of goodness there.

The only Thin Clients I can find for a decent price have 256mb drives. What kind of drives do these have? I hear that they are expensive. Can you put bigger ones in them that you can get that are SSD or are you stuck with a certain kind? I am running two scanners off my computer and would like to run both of them off a the same thin client...I was thinking of the NetBook because it has a SSD drive and they have no fans or moving parts just like a thin client..Is there anything else that a person can run there scanners off of? Also must thin clients come with no hard drive so I would have to buy one of those raising the price..Thanks..Keithmj

Well, I guess you need to define "expensive" -- I bought some HP Compaq 5710 Thin Clients from a vendor on eBay, with 512MB flash drives and 256MB of memory, 1024x768 graphics... brand new... for $129 each. They each came with a brand new keyboard and mouse. That price even included shipping.

I bumped the memory to 512MB by buying a complete 512MB replacement module... for $28 each plus about $1.75/module for shipping.

I call that a pretty good bargain for a system that's designed to run 24x7 forever. Have you ever SEEN the situations they install these things in, when they use them as intended? They take incredible abuse.

I a big fan of these little machines... I'm in the process of setting one up for my parents (who aren't exactly what you'd call "computer savvy") to use to browse the web and send email. Hey, it's cheaper than "MSN TV" and it's a better experience as well.
