I know there is a lot on this topic about FDNY scanners but I am looking for a suggestion. I need an antenna mounted on the side of my house. Maybe a fiberglass one. I see several on the market but none are the frequency I need and some have dozens of little antennas that I won't be able to mount so close to my house. Can you please suggest different antennas? Like to stay under 300.00. I also live in Queens so 25 mile range should be all I need.
Thank you Vinny

If you live in Queens you would be able to rx all 5 borough channels with out any antenna, The signal is strong enough just get your self a cheap scanner antenna that will work for your mounting locating. Im in Nassau and can rx all boroughs on a cheap handheld with the factory whip

I agree that an outdoor antenna should not be needed but this antenna is designed for the FDNY and NYPD 470-512MHz band:

I have had good results with their antennas for other bands and their web site is helpful.

A friend of Mine lives in Queens and he is lucky enough to have an outside UHF antenna on top of his apartment building. He is in the area of FDNY E293 if that helps :)
The RX of all the repeated channels is of course easy, but he has it for the HTs on scene and gets them very good for about 3 or 4 miles around his apartment
He uses a Tram 1486 that works well

Living in the city, having a base antenna outside might mean receiving too much signal. You will need a good quality scanner, with good selectivity and filtering, because the amount of signals besides the channel you want to listen to will be overwhelming, and ironically will overload your scanner and prevent you from hearing what you want without a lot of intermod. Don't be surprised if you have to use an attenuator because the local taxi company down the street is all you hear on any frequency
