Yes. They have a statewide VHF low band repeater system, as well as VHF low band simplex channels. Simplex and repeater outputs are in the 47.xx band; inputs are in the 45.xx band. From what I hear on these channels, it is infrequently used, at least here in south Florida.

Also, they also are licensed on the old Florida Highway Patrol VHF high band channels. Here in south Florida, I have heard automated messages ("FDOT Radio Net") on 154.920 and 154.680, both with a PL tone of 151.4.

Thanks again, I'm in the NW region and got those low band frequencies imported from RRDB. But I haven't heard anything.

I worked for FDOT for many years. They have little to no training with regard to radio usage. They just prefer cellphones these days.

I see. I seen them on a rural state road, last week. the two workers had handhelds, directing traffic because of one lane shut down. I didn't have my scanner to get a close call. Maybe they were using FRS/GMRS. Hard to say.

I heard a DOT road crew on 151.955 (pl 67.0) simplex a couple of years ago in Miami.

In Jacksonville they have been installing VHF stuff on 154.665 Pl 173.8 and 154.920 Pl ?? Old FHP. It is a linked system that covers the whole Jacksonville Region from East to West Coast of Florida. Would hear test going on about 6 months ago, but its been quite lately. But I may have them locked out.

Was the dpl 114 or something different?
I haven't checked Polk County, but it seems right.

My observation is that the repeater system uses DPL's, with the first digit of the DPL matching the FDOT district number, and Polk County is in district 1. Here in District 4, the DPL's are 4xx. In Miami-Dade County, which is in District 6, the DPL's are 6xx.

The VHF high band channels seem to use PL as opposed to DPL; here in District 4 they use 151.4 hz.

FDOT has outsourced so much of their maintenance operations so there's nowhere near the number of FDOT employees on the road...most are supervisors checking on maintenance contractors and likely using cell phones.
