Well folks, we're definitely seeing record traffic today due to the snow storm moving through the midwest.

Right now at 4:05 PM CST we have 7,055 individuals all currently browsing pages on the site (many of those probably listening to audio feeds).

We also have 17,500+ listeners which is approaching record levels for listener counts (keep in mind listeners come from multiple sources including iTunes, WMP, Phones, Internet Radios etc)

Right now, we have 8900 concurrent visitors on the Web site, with 18,881 live audio listeners.

One thing is for sure... the stretch from Oklahoma, to Missouri, to Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan is our greatest concentration of subscribers and listeners when it comes to demographics. I don't mean now... I mean overall. Never mind that a huge snow storm is moving through that demographic.

If you were ever curious, our largest grouping of users is either from Michigan or Illinois. I would not be surprised if Chicago beat out Los Angeles in major metro areas that hosts the greatest number of radio communications enthusiasts. Columbus, Indy etc are also very active.

Up to 21,000+ listeners I see, and I'm wondering if the servers are maxed out. I cannot make any new connections. I saw the posting about new servers coming online this week - they might come in handy in situations like this.

We're not sure what happened there.. but we had a report of a few thousand listeners that dropped - we had already added additional servers at that time.

We are back up to 22K listeners now... with Chicago being the primary source.

I'm actually tuned into the Cairns Police live feed. Cyclone Yasi is on Queensland's doorstep down in Australia.
- Winds up to 295km/h (183mph)
- Mandatory evacuation request issued (As per live feed)
- Meteorologists have upgraded Cyclone Yasi to a category five storm

Yes, the scanning community is very strong in these areas.

The support that comes from these people is amazing, not only is RadioReference a strong hold here, but the original/legacy websites and yahoogroups that originally brought these people together have and still encourage a very active group of people!

Another interesting thing last night, was with the storm moving across MO, IA and into IL..... you could hear the Illinois National Guard, Illinois Emergency Management Agency and some others statewide on certain talkgroups on STARCOM21. It was a great night for listening!
