Ferrum College, a small liberal arts college in Ferrum, Virginia is under lockdown this morning. Both of my parents are professors there and my brother is a student there. They received a text alert this morning through e2campus and apparently sirens were going off on campus. I am not sure at this time what the status is. Apparently it started as a housekeeper being held hostage by a student. I heard over my scanner approximately 35 miles north of Ferrum that they were taking the housekeeper to the hospital. More details can be found here:

Let's hope for a speedy end to this with minimal injuries.

Hoping for a safe outcome. Can't hear much. My only digital-capable scanner is in the car that the wife is driving today.

I have to say I have been impressed. I think some will say it was an overreaction, but I don't think an overreaction in these situations is unjustified. You just don't know what you are dealing with.

In these cases, LE is wrong regardless of what they do. Someone will find fault with the response.

For small town, rural America, they look like they did pretty good. The sheriff looks like one of the good old boys that's for sure. Reminded me of Carrol O'Conner in "The Heat of the Night". :D

Yup, I agree the response was quick and proper.
