I monitor FHP all the time. It's pretty easy....

1. Drive above the posted speed limit on any road that begins with "Interstate..." in Florida.
2. Wait for the cop to come to your window.
3. Listen to his radio while he's standing there.

Piece of cake!

yes, they use full time encryption on the state system.

Ok I thought so. Is there anything state or federal related to monitor that is not encrypted ?

The only thing you'll find that I know of is the Division of Forestry (DOF) channels used for fire fighting and fire mutual aid.

Sometimes the officer(s) will turn down the radio where hardly no one can hear it. Than again some officer(s) will have it medium or all most full blast.

Two guys in handcuffs stole a DEP SUV around here..... They must have really wanted to listen!

Needles to say this led to interesting listing on the local system.

They got the about 30 mins latter after the helicopter spotted them. DEP officer was unharmed.

I don't think FHP is encrypted. They use a MA/COM Pro-Voice system as far as I know.

Yes they are full time encrypted on the control channel and on their transmitted audio.

It is time to make a sticky at the top on this topic because has been covered way too many times since they went M/A Com and a simple search by the OP would of answered the question within seconds.

Orange County only has a small number of talkgroups that are cncryptedl. Orlando is in the process of going encrypted for police and fire.

That is totally stupid that Orlando Fire is going encrypted.... I certainly hope that this is just a rumor and not true.... I can see LEO going encrypted but what would fire departments have to hide.... This is just my opinion....

OFD actually got the money and started buying encrypted radios before OPD. The feel they justified the purchase. winter park FD has been encrypted for about a year now.

Oh Well Guess My 20 Year Scanning Hobby is over here in Orlando when that happens, i just dont see why OFD would need to encrypt, but thats my own opinion, Orlando wastes way too much money, buy a multi millon dollar radio system and pay their dispatchers next to nothing, lets not mention the Arena, and the Toll Road System.

There is no comparison between the two, capital procurements like a radio system are typically funded with long term bonds and personnel costs are general fund items where salaries are researched against other organizations.

Nope...Gov't Fiscal departments won't authorize capital funds to be used for personnel costs unless it is part of a grant that is specific to certain position(s) and those typically aren't long term.

Rank and file postions, like dispatchers, are funded with general funds and are never mixed with capital sub-object lines.

capital funds are a one time appropriation. If you transferred to personnel, then the next year you would have to lay off the personnel that were hired.
