After years of trying to make this happen, I am FINALLY a Technician!!

Just had to tell someone.

Also, to anyone who is also not able to learn just from a book, I highly recommend hamradioprep.com , the videos coupled with the text was very helpful, and while I still have room for improvement in areas (mainly the math stuff....), I feel I have the basic knowledge to be active in amateur radio, and not a total idiot.

Congrats local guy. Still less than a year since I was first licensed, I'm an AE now. There are plenty of active repeaters in the area with weekly evening nets.

Welcome to the hobby. Get on the air and ignore the inevitable fools you will discover. Expect to make mistakes, but it is a vast learning experience from satellite ops to LF hops across oceans.

If you decide to do two meters, here's a good challenge for you, chat with the ISS crew: International Space Station

Hey @EngineCo8, a most hardy congratulations there, my friend! Welcome to the wonderful and ever changing world of ham radio! You only got one thing in error in your grand announcement… You, my friend, are not an idiot — you never were and you never will be. 73, Dave K4EET
