• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Finally got the Sirio in place.

If your going to get a new Sirio antenna I would recommend the model 2016 or Vector 4000 over the 5/8 GPE. They have between about 1 and 2dB more gain. Plus the GPE is only rated 250W continuous where the other two are rated at 1,000W continuous.
Only going to be driving an Icom 9100 into it without an amp, for now. I can always mount it on my aluminum cabana for receive only.

A good antenna and Propagation is going to be your edge - You can drive all the power in the world but if it does no have a good
place to leave the house its pointless.

250 Watts will improve your ground wave talk but the Sky Gods control the Skip !

Out of all the Sirio CB line I personally like the 2016 model with its small ground plane footprint, neighbor friendly look and great performance. Out of all CB base antennas I'll take the Hy-Gain Penetrator any day.

"You can drive all the power in the world but if it does no have a good place to leave the house its pointless." I ran across a ham friend a week ago on 38 LSB who lives about 75 mi away tucked up against a 3,000ft mountain in the way with another 3,000ft mountain in between us. He was coming in great around S9 and I thought he was mobile on top of his local mountain.

Instead he was home running about 3kW (on his 10kW amp turned down) at his house with two mountains in the way. This was not skip, just a lot of power into a good antenna up at a reasonable height.

In hindsight the 4000 or 2016 would have been better but for 95 bucks plus 5 tax and free prime shipping I couldn't resist.

I may pull the loop off the chimney and place it there since I have been reading loops like to be close to the ground anyway.
