I was reading over the database as I'm still trying to understand as much as I can.... I also like reading into the FCC licenses to understand how things work. I see that on the Islandwide system there's two Transmit locations, the water tower and what appears to be the court house... Does anyone have any insight on how this system works? Just out of curiosity!

That channel is named “Islandwide 2” in the radios. “Islandwide 1” is the simplex talkaround channel of it. As you see, the frequencies are licensed to Ocean Beach who hosts it for the whole island to utilize. Everyone uses “Islandwide 2” to communicate with FRES and each other. Ocean Beach has a few other repeaters at their disposal, one of which is their primary operations channel on top of using Islandwide 2 to communicate with FRES. Saltaire and Davis Park also have repeaters of their own but they aren’t used often and the range is very limited to their districts as they don’t have much height.

To answer your question, FRES only started communicating with the departments on Fire Island via Islandwide 2 in recent years. The transmitter located at the CI courthouse is for FRES to use to hit the repeater located at the Ocean Beach water tower effectively. The CI courthouse is clear line of site across the bay.

I hope this information helps you.

The CI Courthouse is a control station on 479.475 used by County FRES Dispatch to communicate to Fire Island FD's on Islandwide 2 repeater.

There is also a receive only site for Islandwide 2 on the east end (FI Pines I think) for receive issues in Cherry Grove, The Pines and Davis Park.

Other repeaters hosted on the Ocean Beach Water Tower are OBFD Primary and Islandwide 6. Most other channels are operated in simplex/direct.

Thank you very much! I figured it was a control station. I guess it’s wireline control from FRES or ROIP
