NJ ST PD Running Fireworks arrests on Troop B.

TG is from Troop A but it looks to me that it is Patched

So it can either be 35056 or 35059 depending on how you
handle status bits.

I was wondering what those TG's were. Are they just randomly stopping cars or are they looking for violations and seeing who has fireworks in plain view?

I can't imagine them doing anything to violate someone's civil rights. They got caught once already. I read a newspaper article where the paper said NJSP is going to watch vehicles go in and out of PA. Unless they see something in plain view or some idiot actually lets them look in the trunk, who are they going to catch?

I will miss out here in troop C :( They are staging undercover units in parking lots of firework stores in PA. The UC's are calling in the make, model, tag, and driver of the fireworks offender so the boys can make the stop back across the state line in NJ. From there, I am not sure, but I don't see how the driver can deny it since they probably have them loading the purchase into their car on the dash-cam or whatever. What a good way to waste tax dollars when NJ has real crimes being committed. NJSP needs something to do.

That's legal, NJSP watching people in PA?

I'm all for the purchasing of the Fireworks. Just, if you blow your hand off don't call EMS! That should be a law. The same goes for seatbelts and motorcycle helmets.

legal -yes if you can see it with your own eyes you can use it against them - when they cross the border
anyway they are working the border crossing with NYC PD units - yep NY has officers asign in PA for interdicting ? large shipment of fireworks....in fact in past years they have had large seizures due to the under cover officers sent out there; but given the recent "car fires" over seas this has move up in priority

Why is it that the NJSP is so addimently going after fireworks this year? There were stories on News 12 and everything about it. I know that fireworks are illegal in NJ (something that I personally do not agree with), but it seems like thier going after it MUCH more this summer.

What happened was all these fireworks stores have sprung up on the NJ border in PA. These stores will only sell to people who live out of state (which means 99% of the customers live in NJ). NJ did complain to PA about them and they didn't want to do anything about it, so I guess this is NJ's response.

Plain and simple. The possession of fireworks in New Jersey is illegal. If the authorities catch you with them, no matter how, when, or why they do it, they will be confiscated and you'll pay the price. People need to accept it, refrain from using them, stop complaining, and find some other way to amuse themselves. There are plenty of events on the 4th, and all summer long for that matter, many of them free, that feature fireworks displays legally staged by professionals. If you want to see fireworks, attend one of these events, and return home with all of your body parts undamaged and intact.

I'm all for it.

I don't care if some idiot blows his fingers off...

However, last night at 1215 I DO care that some idiot down the street thinks its a good time to wake the neighborhood.

I met the police in front of their house and walked the PD right to the residence that was shooting them off.

It stopped and my 2 year old went back to sleep!

From today's WDEL Radio news web page...

Crackdown on fireworks buys
Some Delaware residents are among 50 people arrested for having illegal fireworks.
State troopers in New Jersey confiscated nearly four tons of fireworks along the Delaware River crossings with Pennsylvania.

State police arrested 50 people and confiscated 78-hundred pounds of fireworks valued at $21,000. The arrests included people from Connecticut, Rhode Island and Delaware.

Pennsylvania residents are not permitted to buy fireworks unless they have special permits. However, out-of-state residents can purchase them.
But it's illegal in Delaware and New Jersey to use, possess or transport fireworks.

(We all know fireworks are made of paper, plastic, cardboard and gunpowder, etc.I'm just trying to imagine size of 4 tons
of this stuff that was confiscated.I have a feeling they went after large buyers aka resellers with trucks to get that much weight with just 50 people.)

But I have found that this is a good time to catch normally unused, and/or tactical channel(s) for the various events taking place (traffic/crowd control, fireworks displays, etc). I'll be on the hunt this 4th (for freq's, that is)...

I heard that last nite some dudes hid some estes rockets + a few other goodies (that lit off at the same time) in the tall weeds by a park road & when the cops came by and were right next to the "July 4 IED" set it off and pulled the wire thru the fence.
Probably had to clean the seats in the Crown Vic.
They did get away because the cops were on the other side of the fence. Sounds almost like Iraq---

I wonder what the statistics are of people who blow fingers off or even whole hands. You have to realize that the state makes an enormous amount of money in fines.

The flip side of that is the expense to the state for people who do blow off fingers and hands who don't have medical insurance and rely on the state. Plus the expense on the insurance companies. But who cares about insurance companies.

I don't care if people buy fireworks. The state lawyers should develop some type of liability waiver that if you do blow off whatever, you will not burden EMS squads. It will be your responsibility to get to the hospital and if you do not have medical insurance the state will not pay for you.

It's the same idea as if you were to lock your keys in your car. Some PD's will assist you, but you must sign a waiver beforehand.

I agree. I spent last night lighting off my fireworks in my friend's yard. I stocked up when I was in SD & WI on a road trip. Fair is fair, and I would gladly sign a waiver stating that one of my friends would transport me to the ER if the worst happened. If you are smart and follow directions, the safe detonation of fireworks is enjoyable. People get hurt when they get stupid and try to do crazy things with the fireworks.

Hi boomers,

Better late than never on this one!

Hey NNJ, what kind of weeds are you growing up in Flanders anyway?

"You have to realize that the state makes an enormous amount of money in fines. The flip side of that is the expense to the state for people who do blow off fingers and hands who don't have medical insurance and rely on the state."

Man, you have no idea how hard I'm laughing!
