I'm curious as to which would be a better setting? When I program my 396t to my local PS dept's and do auto mode selection some come up as NFM and some FM. I always assumed most all of them were just considered FM. Would it be a good or bad thing to set them to NFM? Does it depend on the PS Dept.? Does it help reception?
Thanks for any help!!!!!!

On scanners FM = NFM.
For most practical purposes all FM is NFM EXCEPT broadcast radio which is WFM.

You could just look at the MODE column for those frequencies posted in the database and set your scanner appropriately.

The answer in general is to program the scanner to match the correct bandwidth being used.
