Franklin has their own non p25 system, but their dispatch and fire districts all have TG on the county TRS, I sporadically hear traffic over the county system on these TGs but nothing consistently. Are these mostly for other depts to talk to the franklin system? It definitely doesn’t seem like a permanent 2 way patch

Years back, if memory serves, I had heard that the intent was for all fire companies interested in the Franklin fire talkgroups to connect to the Franklin (Motorola) cell. However a small handful of fire companies/ departments (maybe just one) spec'ed out and were promised access to Franklin but because of an oversight they got P25-only radios so they're programmed to call up Franklin groups on the county cell. Hence the sporadic activity of Franklin talkgroups on the county side.

Huh....or something like that. I thought Franklin TRS was P25. Perhaps a baud rate mismatch perhaps? Nudge AGAIN. The original County TRS was 3600 and went 9600 P2 if I recall. Maybe Franklin remains 3600.?

All I originally saw was the motorola smartzone on the main page so didn’t realize that was p25

Franklin isn't a P25 system, it uses P25 audio over a Motorola system. Hence the compatibility issues, county system radios (P25 trunking, naturally) would need to also be capable on a Motorola system to achieve the goal of keeping Franklin fire district talkgroups off the county cells. If radios were purchased which didn't have the hardware capability for a Motorola 3600 baud control channel, or if there wasn't funds to upgrade/ unlock that feature, then a potential alternate solution would be to allow those radios to affiliate to a Franklin talkgroup on the county's P25 cell.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to say whether it could be a hardware issue or must only be an upgrade funding issue but that's moot in the context of this question.
