Franklin new radio system

Yes, the City of Franklin is using a new radio system. Fire/rescue is still being paged out over the old freq but all radio traffic is on the new system. Heard that it is a high band (VHF) trunking system, but not sure. The change over was last Sat. Since then I have heard fire/rescue talkaround on the old police freq.

I have not heard of a VHF trunking but would like to learn more.

The statewide STARS system under construction and testing now is vhf digital trunked.
A similar statewide system is in Alaska.

This is the first municipal system I've heard about. My questions are:
1- Is Franklin's new system analog or digital?
2- Is this Franklin only system or has (or will) either Southampton County or Isle of Wight County join Franklin?

Southampton Co. upgraded their system last year from a Low band system to a VHF split band system and Isle of Wight Co. upgraded a couple of years ago with the addition of tac channels.

Hi Mike,

I knew about Southampton's upgrade; I was just curious. Seems to me that a trunked system, no matter the band, for a small city as Franklin would be a bit much. That's why I was asking about Southampton and Isle of Wight. Hey, if they have the $$ to spend, why not?

Hi Guys:

Yes, it seems like a lot of frequencies just for the Town. Looks like all the VHF channels statewide are disappearing fast! I know when I left the HR area years ago that area was beginning to grow rapidly so they will need it.

Got an email from a firefighter in Franklin Area HISREPLY
Yes, the system is up and running at this time. Paging on the old freq
will end on tuesday. We now have 64 channel radios in the rigs and for
portables.

What the bloody H___ do they need all of those channels for unless they are joining with the county? And voice inversion? Who sold them that system anyway? Don't they know about APCO and compatibility with other jurisdictions? Where was the state's input on that choice? SHEESH!!

The LCN in your 113 post appears to be correct here in my house. Not very active, but the inversion is present on all PD broadcast. Strangely, I get 1/2 hour CW in 0-07-xxx talkgroups on my 785D but don't get them on my Pro-92 or 2067. BTW, my V1 Pro-92 normally can scan LTR in any LCN, but with this system it must have the correct LCN you provided. I also only have those 7 frequencies you listed through channel 16.

also PD came up today on 0-01-005 no activity on 0-16-001

on the CW ID the format seems to be 0-xx-253 where xx is the repeater number

yes and no, it will not track LTR system, but you can listen to the frequencies in the conventional mode. Police is using voice inversion so you won't understand them

Franklin Trunked Radio

Just out of curiousity, what type voice inversion is being used? If I remember right, Motorolla runs a "rolling phase inversion". Is it just simple voice inversion?
This doesn't sound like much fun for the scanner hobby-ist.....

R2D2 inversion. The Ramsey converter should decrypt it but mine is fried.:(

PD is as indicated previously by Mike and Fire is correct in the DB. CW, is agency 07, ie 0-07-253. Mike also had most of this earlier.

Though I live in Suffolk, my home is 30 miles from the Franklin Tower, so I do not receive the system well sitting here. A few minutes ago I carried my Pro-92 away from the PC and could receive better. Someone was apparently attempting a patch (I-Call) on ID 0-10-025. I also heard traffic a couple of days age from an apparent city service group but didn't get the ID or group name.

Also, I had indicated earlier that my V1 Pro-92 needed to be set with the correct LCN. However, in a drive closer to Franklin yesterday, I set one bank to channel 00 through 06 and another to the correct LCN. Either bank scanned the system correctly.
