Can someone please help me? On the radio reference site where the frequencies are listed there are two columns one for frequency (which is in a lightish blue column) and an input frequency. Which one do I enter into my scanner the frequency or input or both? And if it has a tone does it go with frequency or input or both? Thank you

Jono40141,

The frequency you need to put into your scanner is the first column (the one in light blue). The input is the frequency that goes from radio to a repeater and is then retransmitted (at a higher power) on the other (the output) frequency.

You can put the input into your scanner, but unless you are fairly close to the transmitting unit, you will not hear anything.

If there are several agencies using the same freq. each one may have a different tone. By putting the listed tone into your scanner (if it has that capability) you will hear only that station.

How many times has this question been asked and answered? There are at least a dozen answers to every question so by now you have enough information to choke the proverbial horse many times over.

Well, sometimes you want to listen to the "Input" frequency. Two examples are:

1)The "input" is listed in a full duplex system when it should be car to base.

2) The other is where due to old habits from the days when transmitters would not
accomadate a large frequency spread without degradation. The repeater input freq
was used as a simplex frequency with a different CTCSS thatn the one to activate the
repeater.

In cases, where everything goes through a repeater, then, of course, only the output of
the repeater need be scanned.
