I was wondering earlier today about what kind of system FedEx and UPS use in the Birmingham area. What are the frequencies? I did an FCC license search but got nothing for Alabama.

Also, what frequencies do security companies use around here?(as in security guards and alarm companies).License search also returned nothing for this either in Alabama.

I thought these might be interesting to listen to.Thanks for any help.

Most private security firms use SouthernLINC or NEXTEL. Sometimes you will hear local operations on one of the MURS Frequencies. I don't know about Fed EX or UPS Specifically.

Most all of UPS' freqs are liscensed in Louisville, KY, with sites located nationwide. The package cars do not have radios in them. I do not know about the inside operations in the hubs and larger centers, but the small centers (Ft Payne for example) do not use radios. UPS does use radio frequincies for data from the DIADs the drivers carry.

Search for "United Parcel Service" on the FCC database without specifying a state. It will return about 483 results. I have looked once before and found some for Birmingham, but I did not write them down.

I worked for FedEx back in the mid '80's. During that time, they went to a DADS (or digitally aided dispatch system). We were advised to keep voice comms to a minimum, but were allowed to text msg dispatch and other units using our DADS terminal when stopped. The system was designed to allow our portable tracking devices to download from the truck's computer via radio into the company's worldwide tracking system. If it reminds you of the current systems used by law enforcement, that should tell you something about the company. They were well ahead of their time.

I assume UPS is using something similar from what I've observed lateley.

Here's a link to their license info, but don't expect to hear much except data bursts:
