• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

54-72 is TV channels 2, 3, and 4
72-76 is radio control, and usually link transmitters, though they're fairly rare these days.
76-88 is TV channels 5 and 6.

You might find a few bugs in the TV channels, but they will be extremely low power, and short ranged.

Just on checking the FCC, there are 582 licenses listed for the ULS Database from 72-76 MHz in California.

Yes, those are still TV channels. DTV adjusted only some of the old UHF channels away from TV.

Over-the-air TV in the USA is still using channels 2 to 51. What was previously known as TV channels 52 to 69 are now the 700 MHz band.

While most people think that all over-the-air TV is digital, IT IS NOT. There are still tons of low power analog TV signals on the air. This issue was even overlooked by some people in the industry who orignally approved converter boxes. Later they came back with "analog pass thru" so that these low power stations could be received with converters connected.

I will also comment that the number of broadcasters using channels 2 to 6 for ATSC in the USA is low because interference/etc in that band plays havoc with ATSC. But they are there as well as analog. And don't forget that many cable systems are still analog within those frequencies, and an unterminated cable can broadcast a short distance.
