I’m trying to get vhf on both sides of the radio. By default, it’s vhf on one side and uhf on the other side. The manual says to hold the dial button in for 1/2 second, then select the band you want for each side. It doesn’t cooperate. Can’t find anything about it in the search engines, so I figured I’d try here. Anyone have a solution other than factory resetting the radio?

What software are you using to program the radio? I looked at the RT Systems software I have in my computer for that radio and it's possible to program a mix of VHF and UHF frequencies in either side of the radio. What I did when I programmed my club's radio was populate all the left side memories the way we wanted and then just copy and paste that into the right side memories so both sides are the same. I've done the same thing for other radios I have that are similar.

I found this on page 21 of the instruction manual.

Press and hold in the “left” DIAL knob to move the operating band on the “left” band
144 MHz --> 250 MHz --> 350 MHz --> 430 MHz --> 850 MHz --> 144 MHz ......
Press and hold in the “right” DIAL knob to switch the operating band on the “right” band
430 MHz --> 850 MHz --> 144 MHz --> 250 MHz --> 350 MHz --> 430 MHz ......
1) You may select the operating band on the “Main” band by pressing and holding
in the microphone’s [P1] key for 1/2 second.
2) The FT-8800R may be configured to operate either in a V-V or U-U mode, if needed.
