FORT COLLINS – Firefighters say they found the body of a woman in her early 20s inside a burning home on Friday morning.

The Fort Collins Police Department and the Poudre Fire Authority got a 911 call about the fire around 11:15 a.m. The house was on Yale Avenue just east of College Avenue.

According to the 911 caller, smoke was coming out of an upstairs window of the home.

When fire crews arrived, they found the dead woman in an upstairs bedroom. They found a fire both in the bedroom and a second fire in the basement of the home. One cat was killed in the fire, but a second cat and a small dog were taken out unhurt.

Police and fire crews are still investigating the woman's death and how the fire was started.

Police say they are searching for a blue 1997 Nissan Altima which belongs to the woman who was found dead in the home. It has a Colorado license plate with the number 015-KFH.

The woman's identity has not been released.

Fort Collins Police spokeswoman Rita Davis said authorities have deemed the fire "suspicious."
