• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I inherited a large number of 99 channel alpha display FTL-2011 VHF mobiles, and I am trying to set them up for a local ARC. I know about the issues with having to use real DOS and too fast a computer. I am using real DOS from boot up, but what I am in need of is the programming manual. I have figured out most of the menus, but right now I am trying to add channels to a groups, and can't figure that out. I also see that the radio is 134-170 mhz, but with a few simplex 146 mhz channels programmed I just get beep upon TX and no RX with another radio. There a lot of adjustments, like devide down and even bandwidth. Thus the need for a manual, and the built in help doesn't really have much to assist.

The 2011 was sold in two band splits, the A version is 134-160 MHz and the C version is 148-174 MHz. The programming software has no band split checking and will allow 134-174 MHz regardless of the radios actual capability.

You probably have C split radios & your VCO is out of lock.

To add channels to groups go to the group menu and click on 'channel allocations'. By default all 99 channels are assigned to group 1. Change group 1 to less than 99 & you will be able to assign free channels to other groups.

With the cursor in the transmit field press the spacebar to toggle between receive only (transmit field is dashes) and transmit capable (frequency displayed in transmit field).

If you try to enter a transmit frequency when set to receive only it reverts to dashes (-------) when you hit enter.

Thanks, for that info as it drove me crazy for awhile. I ended up creating a whole new code-plug from scratch. I did have a weird error where the radio was 5kc off frequency on transmit using a read code-plug from one radio, but the new from scratch cleared that.
I was chasing my tail for a while with mis-programming and defective radios. Once I got one working correctly I was able to program most of them. Now I have a few with dead RX or an squelch audio leak through.
