Ordering this weekend for mobile use…12VDC plug, external antenna! These damn small cars sure make installing any full-size device a pain!

There’s not a lot of volume to be had with the BCD325P2. An amplified speaker is what I run in my F-150 Lariat with the SDS200, and it’s one of the quietest vehicles out there according to Consumers Reports. It puts my wife’s high end Escape to shame.

Depending on what car you have the USB ports or cig lighters go dead after you shut the car off… makes it ideal if you leave the scanner on, it will power up by itself when you start the car.

I'm east of you, in Dallas County, As we both know, there is a lot of practically non-stop radio traffic in this metro area.

When I am using my 325P2 at home, it is almost always on external power, unless I grab it and take it to another room without a scanner, or outside, to listen to a specific incident. Normally, when driving in the metro area, I have my SDS100, or pne of the 436HPs, connected to a power adapter. But occasionally, I just grab the 325 to use as-is. I'm lucky to get 2 or 3 hours of listening, on fully charged batteries, before I need to switch out the batteries, or connect to a power adapter.

While in your home county, Parker, you don't have simulcast problems (at least until the Granbury/Hood County is up and running), the 325 does not do well in dense simulcast areas, you'll have those when you in Tarrant County, or even farther eastwards, I do like the size of the 325, as it is a good grab & go radio.

I purchased a AA Lithium-Ion battery charger. It comes with 4 RECHARGABLE AA Lithium-Ion batteries. (I wanted to see if I could get a longer run time using the LI batteries. I found them just slightly better than regular rechargeables.) But they are much lighter.

Thanks for the tips...didn't realize the puny audio output of the BCD325P2! Although if it is plugged into one of the USB I may be able to power and play thru the car's audio system. As for batts, yea maybe a couple of sets of spares is easier than fulltime to a 12VDC source unless the USB power/audio out concept works.

The 325 cannot output audio thru the USB port. Most newer cars however an an aux in audio jack so if you have a stereo patch cord like those used for an iPod etc. you can pipe the scanner audio thru the car stereo system.

Otherwise you can buy a Bluetooth adapter and plug it into the earphone jack.

The third option is an amplified speaker.

I use my 325 in the car with USB for power and up until last month I used wired earbuds. I got a Bluetooth adapter plugged into the earphone jack and this is much better connected to bluetooth earbuds.

If you go into the menu on the 325p2 and increase the volume offset it helps a lot , and I use "IKEA rechargeable and get 5 hours on the batteries
