To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

G4 in the amplified charger, is there any point in connecting a 700/800 MHz external antenna or is the BNC external antenna connection only for the secondary band with a G5?

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the external antenna connection on the amplified charger is for all bands of whatever G2, G3, G4 or G5 pager is placed in the amplified charger.

My amp charger was supplied with a long wire type antenna which I assumed was for the secondary band. I have replaced that antenna with an old RS 800 antenna and notice a full bar increase on my G5 when I place the pager in the charger.

Connect an external antenna to the amplifier jack and disconnect the OEM SMA antenna from the pager. If you loose signal, the antenna jack is only for a secondary band.

The bnc connector on the amplified charger is for both bands of a G5 pager or whichever single band model you have.

According to Unication, the 800MHz is only via the SMA on the top of the G4.

For the G5, that depends on the model variant you ordered. Check your model number.

The amplified charger base will supply external RF from an external antenna to BOTH bands in at least a G5.
I live in an apartment wrapped in a steel mesh or lath for holding up the old stucco material applied to the exterior walls. Not many external RF signals penetrate that very well if at all so external antennas are needed here for everything.
Without my amplified charging base hooked to one of my rooftop antennas, my G5 is dead to all signals when I try it indoors except for one trunked sites tower only a mile away.
Basically, I live inside a Faraday cage of sorts. Sometimes that can be a good thing!

As far as my G5's SMA connector, it would be correct that an antenna attached to it does only feed the primary radio which is the 7/800 radio in my G5. The secondary radio is VHF in my G5 and uses an internal antenna inside the G5 or... both bands will use an external antenna if the G5 is sitting in the amplified charging base with an outdoor rooftop antenna attached to the charging base BNC antenna input.
This was all verified by Unication more than once.

Seeing as we have answers that are all over the map, I'll add in that the BNC connector on the amplified charger is only for decorative purposes and serves no useful function. o_O

Search this forum for posts in threads containing the answer from the various Unication representatives whom were verified by RR as Unication reps.

They've answered this question more than once here and have verified the amplified charging base's external antenna BNC jack does supply signal to both bands in their dual band models.
That's a fact and I know it. If nobody else wish's to believe it, that's their loss.
