To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently upgraded my PPS from version 1.30 to 3.16. I am now getting Out of Range alerts where I NEVER received these alerts before, like 5 or 6 times in 5 minute a period. These alerts are mostly when I am driving around, but I NEVER received them with the older version of PPS.

Is there something that changed with V3.16 that I can change in the PPS? If so, what?

Can I revert back to using V1.30?

I also upgraded to the newest firmware after upgrading the PPS, so the Out of Range alert issue existed before the firmware upgrade.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!!!

Go to 7-Pager Function List Setting. Then Step 2 - Device Function Setting. The Alert can be disabled there. This is on the 3.16.21 version.

Isn't that setting for an Alert tone, not the text message? At least that seems to be the case per the Parameter Description menu.

I was getting at out of range alert while the radio was sitting in the amp/charger and I solved the problem by attaching a rubber ducky to the back of the amp/charger

Is your concern that you're receiving an audible alert whenever your pager goes out of range of the system you monitor, or that you're losing the actual signal when you shouldn't? BTW, I think you're confusing the firmware versions with the PPS versions. ("I recently upgraded my PPS from version 1.30 to 3.16.")

It is an Alert tone for 'Out of Range'. Mine is set to Enabled. (not on purpose...probably a default setting in the software.) It is a low sound when it is Out of Range and sounds a 'dit dah dit' when it is back In range.

To reply to everyones questions:

That selection is unchecked (disabled) on my PPS.

G5 is dual band...which band went out of range?
The 700/800 band; the only thing I monitor with the pager.

Yes. That is exactly what is happening!

The "1.30: is what was written on the CD that was shipped with the pager.

This only happens when I am driving in a certain area, that I know is well within the towers that I have programmed into the pager. Before upgrading the PPS, I NEVER received an Out of Range alert.

I hope this information helps. I would really like to find a solution to the issue than just turn off the alert. But I am willing if it comes to that. Thank you everyone that replied!!
