Lightning starts two fires in area
Two fires caused by lightning Wednesday night kept Poudre Fire Authority staff members busy.
PFA Battalion Chief Bob Poncelow said one lightning strike hit a storage tank on an oil well in Wellington and another hit a house on Falling Water Drive in the Fossil Lake subdivision in southeast Fort Collins.
Poncelow said the Wellington fire was located on Larimer County Road 7 just before county road 68. Two units, a hazardous materials unit and a foam unit, were sent to assist the Wellington Fire Department. The fire was declared out about 10:15 p.m.
The Fort Collins house suffered minor damage after being hit by lightning in the front of the house.
"It didn't amount to too much," Poncelow said.
