Two elderly men were killed in an accident this morning on Highway 141, mile marker 135, in Unaweep Canyon, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The driver, an elderly woman, was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with “serious bodily injuries,” said Trooper Ron Greasley.
Their vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Lumina, was northbound on the highway until it somehow lost control, crossed the road, flew over a driveway, landed on its nose and spun around, Greasley said. The two men who died were not wearing seat belts, Greasley said. The woman was wearing her seat belt. No one was ejected from the car.
Greasley said the patrol will look into the possibility that the driver may have had a medical condition that may have contributed to the accident.
The victims’ names will be released after family members are notified.
State Patrol was notified of the accident at 9:38 a.m. Emergency responders from Lands End, Gateway Unaweep and Grand Junction fire departments arrived at the scene to assist.
