Greetings,

I will be travelling to the Gatlinburg are in about three weeks. I have checked the RR and noted the local public safety freqs. Does anyone have any suggestions on any other interesting freqs in the area that might be of interest or what the best public safety freqs might be?

Any local expert knowledge would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I was in Pidgeon Forge a few years ago for the spring race at Bristol.
While my wife and I were up there, we decided to go to Gatlinburg.
Gatlinburg was nice, the only thing I did not like was the fact that
you couldn't go anywhere down the street without being harrassed by
someone wanting to sell a time share. But other than that the scenery was so beautiful it would surely take one's breath away.
have a safe and enjoyable time there.

I am a few counties south of there, I would check out the following
Great Smoky Mountains National Park http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&aid=2063 at the bottom
UT's Lifestar http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&aid=2404
THP District 1 http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&aid=641
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency if you have a digital scanner http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&aid=3089
I would try Blount and Knox counties

The Knox county TRS will be very active on Sat if it is a home game

I have a few questions, My firend has a Pro-97 and is planning on going to Gatlinburg area in about a month. How is the reception in the area? Is the digital features a plus in the area or not a nessecity due to the mountains? Thanks everyone.

It has been a while since I was up there, my memories are quite sketchy of the reception. The only thing that I know of in this area that is digital is the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

Came home a few days ago from there, things have changed from when I was there in Sept. The National Park Service (NPS) is now running Digital on their Conventional freqs, also looks like they changed or added a few freqs. 169.55 is still active as the Regional repeater, 167.15, 169.0875(New), 170.5125(New), and 171.1625 all seem to be Repeater outputs with the same input. Sounds like the Park Rangers all now Digital, but a few users, maybe the maintenance guys, are still Analog. Also heard, on 169.55 Analog, a "Wildlife" unit contacting the NPS Dispatcher, then the dispatcher went digital, then came back on analog to the "Wildlife" unit.

Here is the Freq/Modes noted

167.1500 Digital/Analog
169.0875 Digital
170.5125 Digital/Analog (PL 123.0 noted in Analog)
171.1625 Digital/Analog (PL 173.8 noted in Analog)
