• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey,
I have a few Monogram SL70s and an SM4150 I want to reprogram. I have the original GE cable built for these but, I can't figure out how it interfaces with the PC?? It has a male DB25 end as shown and it looks like I am missing a special cable that would adapt it to a DB9 Serial to PC! I was thinking maybe it plugs into the TQ3370 box but that is also DB25 Male. Anyone messed with these before? Yeah I could get headache free cables at RF Guys , but why spend $100.00?Monogram Cable.jpgGE RIB.jpg

As I recall the programming cable plugged directly into the parallel printer port. The interface box was not required

I'm everywhere Focker!
Been a long time since I programmed a Monogram, but I "believe" I just used a DB9 to DB25 adapter. Pretty sure it's not a parallel port programmer, but I'm not 100% on that.

I didn't have the right extension cable gender and no gender changer. Just tried to plug it into DB25 "Com 2" and also the Printer LPT1 port. No Joy. I don't see how a printer port can be used as a COM Port. The SMP-4004C software beeps and says no adapter found. I'm using a Clone 286 with DOS 6.22. The Red TX light on the radio stays on as if its keying up as well. Disappears when you remove the cable.
I know, OLD Radios but I believe these may be narrow band capable so could be useful. I saw the YouTube video with the SL70 UHF portable and he was using the RF Guys Cable with no issues.

Update: From Hall Electronics Website--Ahhh No Wonder! I would need the GE software and I don't have that. The SMP Software is not compatible.

"The GE software is TQ3375 and is not compatible with the Maxon cables. The Maxon software is SMP???? and is not compatible with the GE cable. There seems to be no difference between the GE version of the radio, and the Maxon version, other than cosmetics. The radios may be a different color, or the speaker grille has a different texture, but both "brands" of radio seem to program fine with either setup."
