nbarco, the GSP are still using the 154.680/154.800 for comms in the CSRA, I have heard GSP units on the North and South TG's for Augusta/Richmond Co on Palmetto 800 before, but not common. The Augusta site of the Pal 800 looks like the closest to your area.

Not sure how GSP is set up on Pal 800, but as far as I know, Richmond County uses the following sites: McBean, Blythe, Augusta and North Augusta.

The old low band 42.02 was mentioned. It is my understanding that the Missouri HP was also on 42.02. I have heard that the Georgia troopers were familiar with some of their Missouri counterparts. Also, heard there were actually occasions when the GSP guys could not reach each other by radio, so MHP would relay their messages.

As I program SEGARRN I am noticing that some of the sites don't have control channels. Is this because we don't know them or is it a P25 II thing? Also, GSP talkgroups are they same across the whole region?

SEGARRN is P-25 Phase 1 (not phase 2). Yes, the TGs are the same on all sites of the network if a unit affiliates. All the sites I can receive directly have listed control channels. In driving around the districts I have not found any problems and the transition from site to site seems seamless on my BCD 996.

GSP post 45 is on the Bulloch County TRS with several Talk Groups, it is mostly analogue but a few troopers assigned have P-25 capability and liase with GSP post 42 units which are on SEGARRN. since post 45 covers a portion of I-16. There are several GSP Talk Groups as identified on the Bulloch rr.com listing on which traffic is rarely heard they date from the years when a large group of Spring Break college students frequented the area and additional channels were needed for security purposes. (Thank goodness they no longer come to the area to "party".).

Glad I stumbled on to this post. I'm going to be traveling from Michigan to Florida and thought I'd program my BCD396XT for the ride. I'll be traversing I-95 from South Carolina to Florida. If I program the SEGARRN system with these talkgroups will that get me GSP for the ride through Georiga on I-95?

My computer logs for the last week show this activity: TG 1101 = 1,969 transmissions; TG 12877 = 228 transmissions.

The other TGs you mention have NOT been logged at my location.

I am not in range of Post 23, Brunswick.

Also be advised there is a special unit, Nighthawks South of the GSP that consists of 7 troopers and specially marked cars for DUI enfocement that works from both Posts 42 and 45.

Finally you may hear GSP dispatchers talking with MCCD cars that have unit numbers of typically 75xxx, these are for enforcement of trucking regulations. [Motor carrier compliance division].

GSP Car-Car Mode

:)

Receiving GSP cars regardless of the frequency is dependent on terrain and distance. This is because unlike your local county or Ga Dept of Natural Resources (DNR) units which are on repeaters, GSP cars are "Simplex". Simplex means that you hear only what you receive directly from the transmitting source. GSP Posts are simplex as are the cars.

I live in Troup County (Lagrange) and pick them up only when they are in close proximity. I can't tell you specifics as to how far away because it depends on if the GSP Car is up on a hill or down at the bottom of one.

I do most of my monitoring while driving around the state. I'm a sales rep so I live in my car.

CSQ stands for "Carrier Squelch". Basically it means that no "private line" or "channel guard" tone is used. Just straight signal.

FYI....if you are within about a half mile of a trooper car and have 458.4375 programmed, you will hear whatever comes through the troopers car radio and is transmitted to his portable / handheld radio. Called an extender or mobile repeater, you'll hear their car radio whenever it receives a signal. There radios scan so you'll hear area agencies as well as GSP cars or GSP post. You'll hear a popping or burst two or three times a second. That is the priority jumping over to check the Base to Car (154.680) or car to base (154.800). When either of those two are being received you shouldn't hear that popping sound. These two channels are their two priority channels. GSP's own nickname for this is a "pac-rat". Motorola actually brands the device as a Pac-RT. Think of an extender or pac-rat as a remote control to the car's radio via a walkie-talkie.

In addition to this great site, another very good one for Georgia info is www.ScanAtlanta.com website. You can join that webring for free also if you haven't already. Lots of good info goes back and forth.

Any other questions, feel free to write to julian780@bellsouth.net.

Good luck and take care,
Julian 8)

Hey Julian, i know this thread is VERY OLD but im curious to know if the frequencies used for their C2C comms are still the same, and if so is the mode still analog for the C2C comms or did they switch those over to P25 digital also to match the new P25 Digital conventional radio system their using outside of the metro areas? Thanks for your help as im trying to enjoy & get the most i can outta my new Whistler TRX-1 scanner since it costed $530.00 to buy it with updates and all.

Whistler TRX-1 Scanner w/Updates

What "updates and all" cost you extra?

I bought my Whistler TRX-1 around December 10-13th and when i ordered it i also paid for them to update the library database (The whole radio reference database is on the supplied Mini SD card that comes with it) and also update the scanner firmware, paid for the 5VDC wall adapter to charge the rechargeable batteries i also purchased, One Touch Start Up (bought with programming, added to 90% of orders), And i also requested that they program 1 county into the scanner before they ship it. The end total out the door was $530.00 and it took 2weeks to get it due to their supplier couldn't keep up with their demand but it was out-the-box ready when it arrived. I bought this deal --> HERE
It was P25 Phase 1&2, DMR, NXDN ready out the box (As Opposed to buying the DMR/NXDN update for the firmware) and has turned out to be the best scanner ive bought yet. I also bought the Whistler 1025 Desktop base scanner to use to search for amateur radio repeaters with and turns out the area of GA ive moved to is still on old conventional analog 2way radios instead of digital (As of this moment) so that scanner will work to listen to public safety with up here in Hart County GA.

Could have saved a good bit of money and did it yourself. Anyway have you updated the database since you received it in December? If not it would be a good idea.

You were duped into paying for database updates. With EZScan, you just have to click on updates, and it sends it to the scanner. All for free:eek: I have a PSR800 and a WS1088. Haven't paid for an update yet.
GSP uses a lot of frequencies. Analog and digital. Mostly on their P-25 conventional repeaters. You might want to put the GA DNR P-25 frequencies in also. Just never know what you might hear.

NO SIR . . . I wasnt duped, tricked, swindled, bribed but i did feel cohearsed. I was asked by my significant other "what would my HAM radio/Skywarn Spotter want for christmas?" And i immediately replied with "Not the red ryder BB gun, get me the Whistler police scanner that recvs P25 1&2, DMR, NXDN, FM so that i could hear more than just the surrounding areas FM Analog "Simulcast" of their Fire Dispatch channels from their P25/DMR radio systems. So i went to the ZIPSCANNERS site and searched for this-> Whistler TRX1 scanner that ive seen several reviews on and they had a christmas deal going on at that point in time so i pointed to the phone screen and showed her the exact one i wanted and she said if i was a good boy for the entire mth of December 2017 she would tell santa to get it for me so . . . I was on my A game & she purchased that entire deal (I'll share below what was included) for me which meant when it arrived all i had to do was open the box, assemble the scanner and plug it into a wall outlet and i was listening w/o having to do any updates, downloads, programming, or changing any settings which was a plus for me because since i was extra good on my A game she went the extra step and bought me this--> TYT MD-9600 Dual Band DMR Digital Mobile Radio To setup an use as my new FM/DMR 2-way radio (HAM) base station (Which Blew My Mind) so i was too busy with the codeplug for the TYT radio to have to also setup/update my scanner so it all worked out to the good. But your correct, whistler entered into a deal with RR to allow them to update the database for this scanner 100%FREE of charge and firmware updates are included with the scanner for life also. Ive searched the RR database, RR forums and ive found that GSP still has these freqs-> (Here's what I listen to for GSP:
154.680 / 154.800 / 154.935 / 154.905 / 155.370 / 458.4875 / 155.475) in their radios so im assuming from what ive read in other threads on here that one or more of those frequencies are used for the C2C simplex comms between GSP units and can also be used for GSP-SO comms w/o tying up the county rptrs during details, accident scenes and whatever else. Ive heard this exact statement on the Hart cty Sheriff dispatch channel "GSP 636 to hart cty, please contact my dispatcher and notify them that i will be working off of your channel for the remainder of my shift" and she obliged him. So GSP basically works all the traffic calls (Accidents, radar, D.U.I stops, Pursuits, etc) for the counties up here so that SO can handle calls, warrants, paper serves, funeral escorts, etc. Thanks & Happy scanning. My purchase included everything below . . .

Included car charger, item you could have got at the $1 store.
Cable for car/wall charger. Wasn't that included in the box with the scanner?

Headset with splitter. Not bad, but I have a bunch of those in the shack.

Rechargeable batteries and charger. Good idea. Hopefully you aren't charging the batteries while mobile, or in the house. I, myself, don't use rechargeable batteries.

Car mount. Hopefully not the suction cup window mount.

Swivel belt clip. Included with the scanner in the box.

One touch start up included with programming. Hmmm? Just what you would have gotten when setting up the scanner yourself. But, I understand. My first tries a few years ago with my GRE PSR-800 were frustrating.

Programming. That is something you should have learned on your own. Hopefully you've plugged the scanner into your PC and downloaded EZScan. It will have all the USB drivers needed to talk to the scanner. Very important to get database updates, Firmware, DSP, CPU, and programming software updates. What happens when you want to make changes that aren't included in the database?

Have had a SD card scanner/scanners for over eight years, you need to know how to manipulate the software. It gives you a better understanding of how things work.

But, she did go out of her way and got you some ham DMR gear. :)

I understand you are new to this type of scanner. So learn the software and the radio.
I for one don't want anyone programming what I want to monitor! They probably included all of the GSP posts. Unless you travel a lot, it slows down the scanning. Enjoy the radio.
I know I sure enjoy my 1088.

Larry
