• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

It is kinda expensive, but I can see the folks grabbing them for the simplicity factor. For years I have made my own battery packs for SAR work. Still have a few floating around. Over the years they have progressed from just a battery, to adding outlets for charger to inverters and all. This summer we went on a 6K trip around the US. I had built a camper to tow and really didn't want to install DC. Solution was the Jackery 300. While is cost more than i wanted to spend, in the end the lithium battery, charger, inverter and plugs would have cost about the same and I'd spend 3 weeks trying to stuff it all in a small box to grab. The Jackery could be charged via my old solar panel if needed but most of the time got set in the back seat of the Jeep and plugged into the 12V port to charge while we drove. Simple and effective.

So...I can see folks grabbing the Midland for that reason. Simple and easy to use.

Its crazy expensive. I'll be at the Jeep Invasion in Pigeon Forge TN next weekend. Midland has been to all of them so I'll be curious to see if they have the unit on site. Last year they were clueless on the new radios so who knows. But with the "Overlanding" (over use) crowd I'm sure they will be pushing it and selling it....

On another topic they do have a cool wrapped teardrop camper :)

Really cool looking but definitely up there in price, wonder if you could switch out radios and use various ones (etc. ham, cb)

You can use other radios in the case. Still WAY overpriced for what it is. For that price you could get a great condition XTL5000 WITH a power supply, antenna, and all cables and still be cheaper than that setup from Midland.

They had one this weekend at the Jeep Invasion. I got to feel it and play with it a bit. Made really well to be honest. Expensive yes, but my Jackery cost about the same and doesnt have room for a radio. I am sure they sold many at the show. Lots of folks looking them over and asking a lot of questions about them
