Hello,

I get a partial decode on the Central simulcast from 403 & Waterdown.

Any idea what simulcast zone I should be using?

I cannot seem to get a good decode on anything other than Central but it misses a lot of the control signals and users come in really choppily.

I moved to a different antenna setup and it increased the signal but still not clear.

BCD996P2.

Some tricks I have heard that may work with your 996P2 is to use Attenuation on that site. (ATT) Also, use the back of set antenna that came with your scanner.

Tried the original antenna and it didn't decode at all.
Tried Attenuation at option 2 and it worked flawlessly! - Thanks! I knew it was simple :)

I have the little brother to the 996P2, (the BCD 325P2) and I use ATT for improving site trunking on Metrolinx and Peel Region. Transit use to come in hit and miss but has improved greatly.

On a technical note. Receiving any simulcast signal properly is all about the signal levels. The idea is to capture a single site with enough signal to decode properly. Too good of an antenna or too much signal and you capture multiple sites or run the risk adjacent channel or transmitter interference. Too bad of an antenna and you do not capture the site with enough signal strength for the scanner to lock on and decode properly. What you are aiming for is the sweet spot where one site is strong enough to capture (effect) and decode and any other site is weak enough for the scanner not to 'hear it'. This is why mobile reception can be such a challenge. The signal levels are all over the place and dynamically changing. At home you can tweak the antenna and ATT settings to hit the sweet spot. Experimentation is the only way to find what works for you, your location and system site. Remember what works for one simulcast system site may not work for a different system site because of the factors mentioned above.

Worst case ask here in the forums for advice and suggestions. There are many with operational configurations who can pass along their experience in doing the set up.

I am at a fixed location, I don't run mobile as its too much of a hassle to secure the vehicle. The odd time I will use a mag mount and go to another fixed location.

I have a discone at roughly 30ft above the escarpment. Then some other various antennas I can swap to for other bands.

I have a few of these 996P2 and 436/536 and 325P2 for mobile use.
