Going on a car rally at the end of August. Sports cars, super cars, and lots of spirited driving. Already have a Uniden R7 radar detector (waiting for first batch of R8s to release before upgrading) and recently purchased the 996P2 mainly to listen to county sheriff and local traffic around my area (Des Moines) and also for the rally. I have the paid subscription of freescan as well.

I know Ill need to buy a GPS unit, as I plan on cross referencing the rally's route to stations along the way utilizing freescans awesome integrated GPS cords. Any help or knowledge with this process would be greatly appreciated. I also want a roof mounted magnetic or suction antenna (absolutely no drilling) so we dont have some dorky antenna inside the car.

Any comments or insight would be greatly appreciated!

(Attached is the basic rally route, we will get a detailed route a couple weeks before the start date)

with the 996 you have to have the systems in the radio before you can hear them.
the GPS then changes the systems the radio is scanning.
so whatever yu want to listen to, you have to put them in.

Yep im on the same page there and have started that process. Is there a specific GPS unit that works? Also, any recommendations with an antenna suction for the roof?
