What is a good antenna for a Grecom PSR100 scanner? I use my scanner mostly for railroads and I need a better antenna. I want one that can get frequencies from about 10 miles away.

P.S. I'm new here so don't make fun of me if my question is dumb =)

Thanks,

Max

If you want to listen to RR only, you might want to check out a Smiley antenna. You can pick the frequency that the antenna is cut for and the base connector. It is a custom antenna to your spec and it is cheaper than the Diamond. I use a slim duck cut for the marine freqs.and it works great.

What base connector do I select?

I like to listen to railroads and tug boats. I use the Diamond RH77a at home. When I'm on the move I like a Smiley commercial grade regular duck tuned to 160mhz. It's much shorter and still does a good job.

Some of the railroads have frequencies such as 160.950, and others with 161.370. If I select 161 as the frequency on the Smiley Antenna would it be able to pick up the 160's?

Thanks,

Max
