• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

When I go in the RSS service section there is a power level setting for high, medium and low and high is set to 75%, if I put it to 100 it takes it then if I go back to the screen its back to 75, why is this?
Thanks
Andrew

i don't have the software open in front of me, but if i remember correctly that is not % but a relative number. no matter what, it should only be adjusted when you have the proper tools to do so. turn it up too much and you begin to splatter. not to mention you lower your battery time and kill the finals quicker.

how much power is it actually doing? and is it VHF or UHF?

that being said, to make anything stick under service mode in RSS, you have to program it from that screen. otherwise it only temporarily adjusts it and goes back to what it was once you exit.

usually in RSS F6 is key, F8 is program. then F10 to go back a screen. just hitting F10 without saving usually discards changes.

on your SM50 is the model starts x34 it is a 25W UHF, x33 is 25W VHF, 44 or 43 means 40W UHF or 45W VHF. even though it will do more, turning it up only produces splatter and shortens final life. you will not see any increase in talk out range until you get 3db or more power increase, so unless they double the current power it does more harm than good to turn them up. and doubling power above rated is sure fire way to kill it quickly.

also, neither of these radios you asked about are usable in the US after 1/1/13, except for GMRS or HAM.

check the model number, or in the radio wide screen. either palce should tell you the max power rating.

then it is a 40W radio that was turned down to 25, or so you were told. like i said the scale in the software is strictly a reference number, you should not turn it up unless you can monitor actual power out, current drawn, and how clean the signal is. look at the channel properties, it may just be set for low power mode. your SM50 will be a 25-40W, so low power - ~25 and high power = ~40.

key the radio

Make sure you toggle transmit with one of the F keys (I think it's F6) before and after making the change, or the change will not stay.
