True, which is why I mentioned it in my disclaimer. Personally I'd rather fly for a trip that long. However, if I had to drive, I'd consider custom FLs. I'm strange like that though.

Questions

I have an APRS Argent Data Open Tracker 1 in my vehicle that has a GPS puck that with a DB9. Would it be possible to route the 4 wires from the gps puck on the tracker and send that into the back of a 536?

The GPS is a ADS-GM1. Im thinking all i would need is the data in/out going to the scanner from the GPS unit as the tracker itself would be supplying the power/ground?

Pin Function
2 RS-232 data out (+/- 6v)
3 RS-232 data in
4 Power in
5 Ground
- TTL data out (0-3v)
- TTL data in

You need RS232 data out from the puck connected to data in on the scanner, and ground to ground.

Tried that setup didnt seem to work. Put in a zip code on the other side if the USA from me, loaded the stuff from the database. Let it scan for a few mins and even took a drive. Didnt "retune' for my area.

Also tried

GPS Scanner
2-----2
5-----5

Didnt work either. Using the DB9 off the back of the 536 with the 2 wires going into a DB9 thats connected to the GPS antenna, then the 5 wires from that go into the data tracker. Tracker is working and showing my GPS on there.. just nothing is going on in the scanner

I cannot remember is the scanner cable crosses over or not... But try 5-5 and 2GPS to 3Scanner.

Also make sure the baud rate matches in settings.

On a 536HP, it will say GPS on the display.

Not to hijack the thread, is the pin out the same for the HP2 also? Would like to use the same cable for both.

Tried both options.
5-5
2-3
3-2

Scanner never showed GPS.
I had +6v on pin 2 coming from the scanner. So maybe they are backwards? Not going to continue until them pins are figured out. Dont wanna kill the scanner or the GPS unit

You probably have ground and data out from scanner reversed. Data out from scanner stays a constant -5V or so (RS232 logic 0).

The signals on the 436 and 536 are the same. The only difference is the connector.

I see having the clock setting correct is important. I sent my 536 in to uniden to be fixed. They sent it back and said the clock issue was fixed.. Buuuut it isn't. Each time the radio boots I get the same ole clock setting message. I never bother to set it. Could this be an issue why gps does not show on the screen? Maybe I had the pin outs correct and it all comes down to clock settings?

Did you recharge the built in internal battery for the clock? It takes 50 hrs.
