Hello All,

Purchased 2nd hand the scanner. It has the book, but I must say I am very new at this and would like to program in the zone 2 located here: Bell Fleetnet - Ontario Provincial Government Zone 2 Trunking System, Southeast Zone, Ontario - Scanner Frequencies. I am in Ottawa, Canada.

However, I seem to get lost in the book's programming instructions. Are there any idiot proof instructions kicking around as to how to go about doing this? I would have to do this manually because I have no usb cable to hook up to pc ( not that I would know what I am doing anyway).

Thank you for your time

Phil

PSR-400 Programming

Welcome to RadioReference.com. You've found the right place.

The PSR-400 is a base model of the PSR-300. They are electrically the same as Radio Shack models PRO-163 & PRO-164. Here is a link to information on the RR Wiki page.

While these radios can be programmed by hand, most of us use software to do it these days. If you are only programming a couple of frequencies, that is one thing. But with trunked radio systems, alpha tags and 1000+ channels, it is a lot of typing to get everything into the radio correctly.

This page shows the software that is available out there. I use WIN97 from www.starrsoft.com and it comes with a 30 day free trial (as do most). The one thing you will need in addition to the software is a cable. You can use Radio Shack cable 20-047 or the one from GRE (30-3290).

One more thing, if you are a paid subscriber to RadioReference, you can also "import" data into most of these programs, rather than typing it by hand.

I'm here a lot
Hello psavoie, welcome to RadioReference :)

I was reviewing the owner's manual on-line and did not see a section that allow you to program the scanner in VHF-Hi trunking mode. This is essential for trunktracking Fleetnet.

It seems to only handle UHF-Lo and UHF- Hi :(
