I found this last night... It's probably one of the more informative pieces on Numbers Stations that I've ever heard or seen.. Lot's of audio of actual numbers stations as well as the history and theory of them.. It's produced by the BBC so it's very well done.. It's about a half hour long..

Enjoy.

And they're not just in the US - many such stations are overseas as well. Yes, the FCC could find them if they wanted to. Keep in mind that their manpower is so limited, they simply can't go after everyone.

The ones that always give me a chuckle are the spanish numbers stations - particularly the Cubans. On occasion they mess things up and relay Havana right in the background or are exactly on the same frequency just before one of their scheduled broadcasts. Not hiding very well, are they...

They've been around for many many years - and some of them no one really knows where they're from....the dark side of HF, hi 73s Mike
