I am new to scanning. I recently purchased a BCD996T because I wanted to be able to pick up the digital transmissions from Burlington Fire & Police. Using the Uniden Software I have programmed the radio. The conventional systems work just fine.

I appear to be gettiing fairly strong signals on the trunked (digital) APCO P25 system but it does not lock and I cannot hear any conversations. I have entered all the frequencies and the talkgroup ID's but there must be something I have missed. Can anyone provide hints as to what may be going on?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I'm not familiar with the new BC996, but I have a BC396.I run it in "control channel only" mode with the freqs in FM mode. Make sure the system is set as "800 Mhz type 2 standard". The control freqs are 860.7625(pri), 856.4875(sec), 859.7625, & 855.9625. The decode threshold of "12" seems to be best on the Gso/Burl system on my 396, not sure if it will be the same on the 996. I thought they were basically the same radio. I have a 396 UASD file for Burlington if it will work with the 996 & you need it.

Randy, that did the trick. I had it set for "P25" and when I switched it to "800Mhz standard" it started working. Great! Thanks! I will now play with the threshold value and see if I get improvement.

Thanks Mike

Mike,
Glad you got things up and running! :)
The only time you want to use P25 is when the system is a true 9600 baud P25 system. Anything other is a 3600 Baud Type 2 system.
Enjoy your new Radio!
Happy Monitoring!
