Quick recap for everyone that was listening yesterday and today. Officer John Taylor with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department was working interdiction alon I-95 when he stopped a green saturn with Pennsylvania tags. The vehicle was stolen out of PA.
Upon speaking with the occupants the male subject opened fire on the officer striking him four times in the chest, lower abdomen, wrist and left neck area.
The vehicle fled the scene and was located a short time later at Halifax Academy, where the obvious manhunt insued.
Today around 10:45 am the female suspect was located on HWY 903 near Three Bridges Road and after speaking with her she gave the location of the male suspect. A search team was established along with SHP Zebra Unit utilizing FLIR located the male suspect in the woods. When the male suspect was approached by Law Enforcement he was found with a self inflicted GSW to the head.
Officer Taylor is still in ICU at Pitt Memorial in critical but stable condition. He is expected to make a full recovery. PLease keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
