I will be in Columbus all next week and am looking for some active 2m/70cm repeaters. Between the ARRL directory and multiple online databases I have found several. I travel a lot and I have found that I usually end up with a few active, but most are not. Can you guys help me out with a good list of open repeaters for the area?

Also ... are there any areas of Columbus that I should avoid? High crime rate, theft from auto, and such. Don't want to lose my equipment. lol

Don't know about the repeaters, but I lived in Columbus for 6 years or so... The safest parts are N-W of I70 and SR315. If you're hanging out in the University area or Short North or the Arena District, stay West of N. 4th St, and close to High Street. There are some nice parts of town outside the NW quadrant, but they are sparse and you have to go through bad to get there.

EDIT: German Village is a very nice part of town, with some great restaurants, like Schmidt's. It's bounded by Livingston, Parsons, Thurman and Front streets.

These 2 are active at times, If you want a full list, PM me - what radio do you have? Do you have programming software for the radio? If, so I can send you a file you can load.

Another popular machine is the 147.24 with a 179.9. The 146.76 with a 123 PL was listed above, it is where you want to monitor in the event of severe wether, that is the skywarn machine.

As for areas to avoid, I suggest staying away from the 161/270 area, high drug and prostitution area, Miller and Kelton around Children's Hospitial is not very great either.

Avoid the near east side (east of the I-70/71 split). In all honesty, theft from vehicles is rampant all over Columbus so make sure you do your best to conceal your equipment.
