Saw it on Facebook and it's on their website: https://www.hamradio.com/hro-sacramento.cfm

In our continuing effort to provide our customers exceptional sales and service, Ham Radio Outlet is expanding to better serve you. Announcing Ham Radio Outlet in Sacramento, California. Located close to downtown and with easy access from the freeway, HRO Sacramento will proudly serve Northern California and the surrounding area. Our new location will be 4813 Auburn Blvd Sacramento, California.

Finally, a local place to get stuff. HRO in Oakland was the closest, until now!

This is GREAT news! We used to have The Radio Place, Chickenlips CBs & Stuff, Radio Shack, Fry's Electronics, and another radio shop in Carmichael (forgot the name of it). I missed being able to walk in to a brick-and-mortar store to buy a scanner. Bonus: cheaper state tax! I just paid 9.25% state sales tax on the SDS100 I bought at the Oakland store last week. The sales tax I pay here in Sacramento is usually 7.75%

They did this in Tx. now you pay state taxes
My comment is because it is too easy to goin there and spend a lot of money really fast. The only store of theirs I have not stopped at and made a purchase in California is the one in San Diego. The two they closed Burbank and Santa Clara were both small.

I remember a time when we had two active Air Force Bases, an Army Depot and many electronics stores in this area. We had competing surplus stores (Valley and HSC), competing component places (Zack & California Radio & TV), and many retailers (that eventually included Radio Shack & Frys).

It has been really nice to be able to just pick something up locally; whether a replacement part or something more grand. Last week I did a search and found one place listed (it's in Rancho Cordova), but haven't visited there. I look forward to having HRO here and think they should do better here than in Oakland (but who knows, with the changing landscape).

I miss AES. They only had 3 retail, "brick and mortar" outlets in the country, the closest to me being Las Vegas, but their service on the phone was outstanding. Their catalog was very good. I found things at AES I could not have elsewhere. I'd like to see a HRO store in Reno, better yet Carson City. Realistically, Reno might not be a large enough market. There is a larger population and a high number of hams in the Lake Tahoe Basin, Truckee and Susanville than many understand. As good as internet and phone service can be, being able to walk in gets the best results.

In the CITY of Sacramento sales tax is 8.75%, Sacto County is 7.75%. I guess Ham Radio Outlet will be in the county.

Sorry to hear this, it’s going to cost you a lot.😜
California costs more than anywhere but Hawaii, but Sacramento is far less expensive for a business than Oakland and in my opinion a much more pleasant place to be. The Oakland store has closes and they are moving inventory to the new Sacrament store right now.

Does anyone know when they're slated to open? I have an event at the end of the month (not Field Day) and one at the end of July and need a few pieces to complete my projects.

At one time the Burbank HRO store was managed by a member of the "Radio Communication Monitoring Association" (RCMA), which was the precursor of this site. It started in the late 1970's and used about a 6" x 8" printed booklet monthly magazine. There were editors for single states and for multiple state regions. It was all black and white, but some good maps and other materials were copied on the printed pages. There were some outstanding, well researched articles submitted by members. The magazine and the RCMA folded as soon as the internet provided more timely exchange of information. I think a large corps of the RCMA members joined this site when it began. As I recall the name of the Burbank store's manager was Eric, but hey, this is a 30 year memory situation, so that is just a stab in the dark.

I shop at the local HRO and they've always been decent to me, but I have one minor critique now.

How do they plan on opening a store when there is so little to sell?

Sarcasm assumed! I drooled over those pictures and wished I lived closer. Then a millisecond later I said, "Nah, you don't!"
