As citizens, we have the right to voice concern to mayor and police chiefs. I'm not sure if will matter but at least we can say we tried. I'm happy to post email addresses of various elected officials but I don't want to get in trouble with admin. I'm just suggesting a respectful, brief email.

I think that is a great idea! It sure wouldn't hurt to try! I would suggest contacting the sheriff too as I am thinking he has a lot of influence on this matter.

I wonder if the owner of the Noblesville Scanner facebook page is aware of this?

Or one of the reasons... Pretty sure I remember from my Ham Radio days you're not supposed to repeat what you hear if you were not the intended recipient... Communications Act of 1934?

I'd have no problem emailing the mayor or Sheriff asking them to reconsider. I'm unfamiliar with the new Sheriff, but Mayor Jensen seems like a reasonable guy the few times I've talked to him.

IMHO same thing applies to the new Sheriff. He even backed Indiana's new concealed carry law. Who has the final say on this matter, the county commissioners? I am sure the Sheriff has a lot of influence though.

Seeing as I don't live in Hamilton County, nor do I listen to them often, I don't think I have a horse in this race.

But it wouldn't hurt for those of you that do to reach out to whomever is in charge. The chances of them going back on their decision are probably slim, but the best part of living in a free country is the ability to voice your dissent to your elected officials.

Too bad this happened just after the election. Was that intentional?

As a manager who works at a business in Hamilton County I monitor police and fire traffic just in the event there is an issue at the business after hours. I believe this is overreach on the part of the sheriff or whoever is making this call. Encrypt the tac channels or HQ channels but leave the general dispatch channels available to monitor.

Let your voice be heard. Tac channels and HQ channels are fine to encrypt...but primary dispatch? Email the county commissioners and 911 Director.

Should we be contacting members of the County Council as well? I noticed that Mark Hall follows Noblesville Scanner on FB and has frequently liked the posts there.

When Safe-T was first thought up and pushed out (some say forced out to make radio suppliers millions) one main seller was radio inoperability. In our county if something hot was going on units involved would switch to the primary agencies talk group to keep it simple. Now with some going encrypted that does away with inoperability for the most part. Yeah, I know there are MA talk groups. Ever tried to switch channels while on a hot run or a pursuit? Or tried to get a large group of units to switch over at the same time quickly without some kind of chaos? Simple and cheapest answer is to leave the main dispatch open keeping the public happy and encrypting a tac or ops talk group for hot calls, SWAT call outs etc. Oh and what about the many radios that aren't encryption capable ? Yes, they are out there our county has many and the agencies just don't have it in their budgets to spend more big dollars on radios that already work fine.

I don't think the way the dispatcher operates the talkgroups is a subject for debate. They have their policies and procedures. We are merely listeners.
