All i get is the outskirts pages nothing in town and yes a lot of garbage at times... I know Hamilton is busier then what i am getting for pages, i use to listen to the simulcast before...they may just switch to the VHF narrow to cut down on cost of replacing antennas. Not to bust the bubble here as i like the paging but can anyone explain why they just don't go to a email format instead of paging? Would it not be cheaper and more effective to do Blackberries to the Captains and Chiefs? if they don't have them already? Mind you it would suck for us but who knows...

Well, the vollie and (from what I was told) the part time FF's carry the pagers along with every support/command/admin/etc member.

I guess it would be cost prohibitive to just "give" all the vollies Blackberries. Hell, I'd approve of getting a free FD crackberry..

Plus, IIRC, blackberries/cell phone networks are more vunerable to failing, than a pager system is. Mission critical I would say is the main reason they do not use email alerts, or text message alerts.

A few people I know have the "text message to cell phone" option with their depts- BUT- they still have a issued portable with them, or a alpha/voice pager. Kinda like double redundancy. There has also been many times the text never came through on their mobile, but it did on their pager... so its not totally foolproof.

I don't make the radio decisions, I just get it handed to me, or hear whats about to happen, and to "suck it up" when it happens. lol

New pagers were delivered this past Friday to the stations and picked up over the weekend. Don't know exactly when the new pager system will be up, the info with the pagers is "old ones will not function after the start of pager system maintenance".

Update..

New pager system will be "switched on" this coming Monday. Not sure of the time thou. They have been testing it out the past week.

And.. all the new pagers/system were done for one reason- narrowband. (apparently the apollo pagers they bought about a year ago are not capable.. heh)

New pagers look like this, for anyone interested.

I thought they switched up to 800mz paging? The 154.8300 is not working according to my friend and he is down in Burlington.

Anyone hear any digital noise or voice on the 407 Mhz channel? In Toronto I think I might be too far away, the digital noise used to come blasting in on the VHF channel.
