Catching FestEvents on
462.3000 d023 poss. ch-1
456.2000 d074
461.2000 d074
156.725 MC74 - people regulating marina traffic

Nothing so far on 453.6625, but listening out

Also 464.475 d413

One weird thing, input to 461.200 appears to be 456.200 rather than 466.200. Am wondering if this is Baofeng territory...

Harborfest Loggings

After reviewing the recordings on the TRX-1, here's a better HarborFest list

462.300 [d023] - FestEvents admin. very likely Ch-1, this is where you could find 'Karen'
464.475 [d413] - FestEvents traffic dealing with bars, catering & cleanup. Admin. traffic after event ended talked about migrating everyone onto Ch's 1, 2 & 3. (I heard channel #'s as high as 10 mentioned during the event)

461.200 [d074] - FestEvents traffic related to traffic control, marina control, and possibly stage scheduling. Input confirmed as 456.200--I had to stay an extra hour to confirm this.

464.475 [141.3] - only heard once--lost & found type traffic

466.600 [225.7] - licensed to FestEvents. request for a case of water

453.6625 - no voice traffic, but did hear a scratchy morse ID

156.725 (MC74) - Internal comms by people controlling boat traffic at Waterside. Dockmaster communicated with vessels as usual on 156.425 (MC68).

156.175 (MC63A) - tug Pinners Point (Crofton Const.) moving crane barge w/Flag from Waterside over to Portside

156.450 - someone coming in with only one engine, asked for dockhands to be ready.
(both Moran and McAllister had tugs heading into their HQ's about this time)

Caught a Norfolk TG 1214 near the end of the event. Someone mentioned being by the ferris wheel. VC 774.08125, CC 857.5125, radio ID 12258. Database indicates the VC is Orion and the TG is a VBPD tac. Pretty interesting having this come from a Norfolk CC.

Note that there were three different uses of 464.475. FestEvents was clearly using d413, while a nearby hotel was using d565, and there was also lost & found traffic using PL 141.3.

I got no hits on FestEvents freq 464.4875. There could've been traffic on 456.425. In checking over things, I find that I had misprogrammed it as 456.45.

I have all the OPS channels on ORION programmed....and they do use most of them for one thing or another. Norfolk TAC 7 is used by Fire/EMS for runs in the Harborfest/TPP/Waterside area. I have never heard anything on 1st PCP "B" or TAC. I heard mention of a broadcast needing to be sent out over the "FESTEVENTS Fire and PD channels" Don't know what channels that was but I don't monitor FESTEVENTS.....but looked them up in FCC database and emissions listed as 2 slot DMR with 3 fixed channels, one at Naval Hospital and the other I think was at World Trade. Programmed them in as DMR once home in Portsmouth (Churchland) but got no signal in "analyze" mode. Maybe because they are only listed as 25 watt max output. Also Numerous Marine Channels.....don't have them in front of me but I can remember Channel 13, 16, 18, 22A, 83A....will look later and send in my list. Curious about the Festevents Frequencies as I would like to monitor them last year. BTW, this is what I have heard for the last 3 years so I think it is pretty constant..

Were you monitoring 462.300, 461.200 and 464.475 as DMR? If so, you radio might've just rejected the analog signals. I found no DMR or NXDN on anything I had for FestEvents. (a lot of entities license for it, but it may just be for future use) I was sitting in the lot by Tidewater Marina on the Portside walking trail. Was still hearing repeaters pretty well from Elizabeth River Park, and from up Tidewater Dr. toward the Wal-Mart with my TRX-1 and rubber duckie hanging from the a/c vent.

You WILL find that 464.375 (NASSCO/Metro Machine security) has gone DMR.

Would love to see your list--particularly if you were listening during the Tugboat Muster on Saturday afternoon. I'm curious about 83A. I heard traffic, but couldn't ID it. I usually hear USCG Aux aircraft, but once heard two Vane tugs using it to dock at Apex Oil. Have also caught 81A in use by tugs with fertilizer barges at Seagate.

What still has me scratching my head is how the Norfolk P25 control channel directed a radio to a Virginia Beach TG on an ORION frequency.

I know....thats a strange one. My Marine list was compiled 3 year ago by using Marine search during the event and saving any with Harborfest specific traffic. Seems to be fairly inclusive....didn't miss anything I don't think. They are....Channel 06, Channel 08, Channel 16 Hail, Channel 13, Channel 18A, Channel 22A CG, Channel 23A CG, Channel 68, Channel 72, Channel 81A, Channel 83A CG. Also as far as Festevents, FCC.GOV database search......used active license search......WNVP744 last updated 2/26/2018.

Emission designation as 7K60FXD and 7K60FXE which are 2 slot DMR (TRBO) and 11K0F3E which is "narrow band, analog, voice" I am assuming that the 3 fixed base frequencies are control channels. You are right there are numerous listings but this was the latest update for 2018.

Also withe the designator of analog voice.....don't see how it could be DMR in the classic sense....so don't know quite how to interpret those listings. Any ideas??

It could be they have it licensed for DMR for future expansion and such, I know many places that have it licensed as DMR AND Analog to have a talk-around or backup repeater for if the DMR was to ever fail.

That would make sense. I wonder if they have not gone DMR yet as people have heard traffic on conventional UHF frequencies as noted. Still the comment about a message needing to be sent over Festevents "police and fire channels makes me wonder.
