Good day gentlemen,(First post and all)
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong; I purchased a RS Pro 197 scanner, ARC 500 software, software upgrade, usb cable, and a premium membership here to find out I can't listen to the city of Yukon's Police & Fire Dept's?? Seems like alot of outlay to be able to listen to the beer vendors at the "Ford" Center..
My last scanner was the RS Pro 2034, which had "slowed down" in traffic, which is why I "upgraded"
Thanks for any comments,
Bob

Looking at the DB, it appears that YPD and YFD are on the OKC EDACS system. That wouldn't be so bad except that they are using ProVoice digital, which can't be demodulated by any commercial scanner.

Thanks, Peter,
You confirmed what I was afraid of. The salesman misinformed me. I specifically stated I wanted to listen to Yukon, to which he replied " Yukon's gone to digital, the unit I'd need was the Pro 197" I know; it's buyer beware out there, but perhaps if he would have been more knowlegable about the products he is selling I could've avoided all the headaches. Looks like I'll get to test RS's return policy.

Well if that doesn't work out, there's a lot more to listen to than Yukon in your area. Also if you travel any it comes in handy for that as well. I know you asked and was told it would work, but you really haven't lost that much if you listen to other things as well. While I'm in NE OK and not in your area, what about the county sheriff? Sometimes you can get info about Yukon when they are involved in the calls.

Well there is always the Highway Patrol on the State DPS trunking system and the Canadian County sheriffs office on VHF but you probably already have that.

Thank you all for your comments. I did return the scanner, explained the dilemma, the store had no issues with it, and I am awaiting my refund. (Payable by R/S corporate offices, by my choice). I have absolutely no complaints about the customer service, in fact I was pleasantly surprised. I'll continue to deal with R/S for future purchase considerations.

Unfortunately, often the employees at Radio Shack are not in the know about what systems that the departments are on especially when it come to OKC choice of radio communications that OKC sold Yukon on lol. I for one was a avid listener of Yukon myself and was at first disappointed at the switching over to Provoice. However, I really don't miss them as they really don't do much. With the current state of Yukon's public safety it may be better that we cannot listen to them. However you can catch some of their radio traffic over on the Live audio for OKC here on Radio Reference.

You can listen to the main dispatch channels of OKC Police on the state system simulcast talk groups for Hefner, Sante Fe, Will Rogers, Spring Lake, etc. I did check Ez Scan and it doesn't list Yukon PD on the simulcast system. It does list Yukon Fire though on the state system. There are times when you can catch Yukon linked to the state system for disasters though, like the recent plan crash. But that was just a tac channel. If I owned a 197 I would try to catch as much P25 traffic as possible.
