Hartford put a new P25 system out to bid 8 months ago. Near as I could tell, the documents for it were not available on line unless you were bidding.

Hard to believe someone in our group here can't locate a copy of the rfp. I'm sure it would have good info on sites, frequencies, etc. Seems like it should be available under FOIA, too. I'm going to start looking at city council meetings agenda notes, sometimes they attached those kinds of information packages to the council agenda notices.

Hartford council meetings seem to simply approve or reject items on the agenda. Perhaps there is discussion prior to the meetings. I have never tried to watch one to see if they simply don't document the discussion in the meeting minutes or if perhaps there are documents that are not part of the record.

exactly my point. What are they hiding? Discussions of this magnitude require public participation. Hartford has the highest mill rate ( #1 of 169 municipalities) in Connecticut.

I have heard that they are going p-25 and supposedly encrypted. But only time will tell if they actually go encrypted

It has, but there are still some systems using it. The MBTA transit system in greater Boston still runs their Pro Voice system. Construction on that started in the mid to late 1990s. It's a very complex system as it covers the subway tunnels as well as the surface lines and buses.

Maybe someone knows how much backward compatible Harris equipment is still in production and will comment.

I also remember that Mobile County, AL ran there EDACS system well after EOL until it was replaced by a P25 system.

Hasn't EDACS been EOL for a while now?

This was a RFP with subsequent contract negotiation.

- From the limited public documents, the plan is for a P25 P1/P2 800MHz system.
- It will have 3 sites, Hartford Insurance, Mt Sinai Hospital, and a tower at Kelleher Ct in Wethersfield.
- Unconfirmed if simulcast (would be my guess)
- It will use the existing frequencies
- it will not require any additional subscriber radios (they own 1100 now but may expand to 1900)
- EDACS decommissioned after the acceptance of a new system.

Considering that Harris ceased supporting EDACS radio systems in 2017 ... I am amazed it has lasted this long.

On 02/02/2022 Hartford put in the application to have p25 phase 1 LSM emissions added to there license(s).
They did add an emissions for a harris system - so I'm going to guess it'll be harris built out

Did you see a completion date for the build? I wonder when should we start listening for testing?

It doesn’t surprise me that they are going Harris considering that they have XL -200s.

Generally government contracts don't start on time, unless there is an incentive to finish early or penalty for late completion. Just keep that in mind if someone provides you with a date and you hear nothing when you tune in.

Late breaking news: Hartford will be reposting the RFP in a few weeks since Motorola raised an issue with the consoles. Motorola bid with Avtec consoles, but Hartford wants consoles made by the system manufacturer. This probably puts the project back 2 - 3 months.

They expect to award the contract in May or June and begin site work in Sept - December this year. Testing could be delayed until January or February next year, assuming no other glitches, like supply chain delays, pop up.

Thanks for the update. There have been some posts around about some pricing changes with several manufacturers, hope they haven't waited too long.

Yeah about everyone has XL200s, and It's probably 100% going to be a harris system. So they'd want harris consoles. Makes sense, but with these supply chain shortages. It'll be a long while.

I don't know why one dispatch center would want to be using two different kinds of console.
Also with fire using CLMRN, I don't see why PD wouldn't go the same route
