Saw the bird up in the sky the other day...

Perhaps on training flights but nonetheless, nice to see it in the air and not sitting in the hangar...

Cheers!

New Calgary HAWC yet?

Has the new HAWC1 arrived in Calgary yet? I know they bought a new EC-120 to replace their old MD and to work alongside the EC-120 HAWC2. I thought the new unit was supposed to be delivered in Feb 2007?

I haven't heard anything new lately. Last news I heard was that 4 new pilots had been hired, and that was from one of the news stations.

As I'm sure you know, even if it was delivered recently, it'd still need to be painted, kitted out and possibly familiarization flights if the controls are even a minute amount different than the existing machine.

Yeah, there was a news report on QR77 last week about four new pilots being hired.

The original HAWC1, C-FCPS, the MD520N, was sold to a private citizen in Toronto in the early winter. It's gone. They've been using HAWC2, C-FHWC, the EC120, since. I was told late last fall that another 120 was being purchased used, and news media have confirmed it, but there's no indication it's here yet - unless you have info we don't, RyGuy. :)

Bravo1 - was this for sure a second EC120? We already have one and it has been known as HAWC2 for over a year now.

If the second 120 is up and about now, it's great news, but this is the first anyone's heard about it.

EDIT: Merged these two threads to allow them to feed off one another. :)

I believe they announced they were buying a second EC120 last fall I think (I understood they bought it new from Eurocopter Canada), and delivery was scheduled for Feb 2007 from what I saw published.

Calgary is also being much more proactive and forward-thinking than Edmonton, in that they have now adopted a plan to replace both helicopters every seven years to maximize resale value on the used machines. Edmonton is only just now coming to the sad realization they have a used helicopter, that needs a major total rebuild in a few years, and they are going to be in a tough position.
