Hawkins County Going DMR

Hawkins County is going VHF DMR for all departments other than VFD. My understanding it will be big E. I see major issues with the big E but the system is being installed by Land Air I understand. Moving away from all analog VHF.

“Officer safety and scanner rats” is the quote for reason why they decided to go dark.

They cited the recent school shooting hoax as their reason for encryption. The 911 director complained scanner listeners clogged up 911. Something makes me think social media travels faster than scanner activity to the masses. Those pesky tax payers. For those who are unfamiliar with the incident, an individual called from Canada and reported he was a bullied student in a bathroom at the school with a gun. Of course it caused a massive police response and, yes, concerned parents and media did show up to the school.

I don't live in the area, but have family in Hawkins. I heard about the incident when it happened, but had not heard the rest of the story. Yeah, I am sure this was all precipitated by someone with a scanner listening to public safety channels
