How often do they have radio traffic on local PD frequencies? Amateur radio repeaters?

That's kind of like asking how cold does it get in Colorado. You say "not very cold," but I freeze my backside off if we fly out to visit the wife's family in Estes Park.

Bottom line for Myrtle Beach / Horry County is that the law enforcement communications peaks with good weather days, and events that bring in alot of tourism.

Most all of the public safety communications takes place on 800 MHz trunking systems, Brandon. You mentioned recently on another thread that you currently didn't have a "digital" scanner, and I didn't see a trunktracker among the equipment in your hobby room photos. Although digital won't be necessary, a trunktracker will be to enjoy public safety communications in Myrtle Beach.

I really can't comment about amateur radio activity in the Myrtle Beach area, but you might want to check out the Grand Strand Amateur Radio Club.

There are also some RR members from the Myrtle Beach area who might comment on this thread.

Have a safe trip, and enjoy ... but leave the snow behind in Colorado.

According to the ARRL repeater directory, these are the repeaters. I don't remember hearing some of these repeaters two years ago (the last time I was there). I probably left my Sera directory at home and didn't scan them out well enough.

145.110 - Conway
145.090 - Aynor
147.120 - Myrtle Beach
147.290 - Myrtle Beach (85.4 pl)
146.665 - Myrtle Beach (123.0 pl)
147.240 - Myrtle Beach (85.4 pl)
147.285 - Myrtle Beach
147.030 - North Myrtle Beach
444.675 - Conway (85.4 pl)
444.900 - Aynor (123.0 pl)
444.575 - Myrtle Beach (85.4 pl)
444.975 - Myrtle Beach (123.0 pl)

Since you are going in the "off season", the PD and FD wont be doing much. Going during the biker rallies or during the Fourth of July, it really gets rocking. A lot of good stuff.

I've been to Myrtle during the summer. Lotsa people! Just like lotsa people here in Colorado during winter because of the ski resorts. I am heading out during early fall when tourism is at its lowest (as it seems to me). Looking forward to fishing (oh yeah love them bluefish!!!) and some radio and maybe some DXing from the hotel balcony.
