I am getting a heap error on my pro 106 scanner. Do I need to send it in for repair?

A heap error means you have a talkgroup not associated with a trunked system. That is a programming error. No need to send it in. What programming software are you using?

None, I program manually. Thank you for the reply. How do I correct this.
Well if you used programming software (a la Win500 or Arc500) you could zip up and post your programming export as an attachment here so we could have a look & better help you but... Did you have a look at the guidance provided in the wiki given to you in post #2?

It's your call, but if you're already willing to pay money to have the scanner repaired, why not try downloading some decent programming software, (ARC500 or WIN500) so that you can read your entire scanner configuration. Then you can see if you have some unassociated talkgroups that you might not be aware of, and correct the issue by yourself.

NB-not certain if WIN500 is currently sending out licenses, so be wary of paying any money to that site (although that software is still my fav for this model scanner). I'd adivse just downloading the unregistered version for your diagnostic purposes. ARC500 has a rocksolid website with an owner who is very active on this site.

In ARC500, all of the talkgoups are in a single page. You just scroll down and look for blank cells in the Trunk Systems column. You can then double click on the blank cell and select the trunked system where you want to assign the talkgroup. Scan lists, lockouts, and other parameters for each talkgroup and conventional frequency are all available at a glance. There is far less chance of making a programming error using software.

Go to all your trunked systems, one by one, look at each talk group and make sure the "System " using each talk group is listed on the TG, one of your TGs is not associated with the "Trunk System " , fill it in and the error will be corrected. I also pgm by hand and sometimes mistakes are made ,....

I programmed a PRO-197 manually for a large trunked system. It took forever having to enter the 2-digit code for each character in alpha tags for hundreds of talkgroups. I also wore out the scroll control on a Uniden scanner entering alpha tags programming a similar trunked system. Then, I discovered the blessing of using software. It's great knowing how to program manually when you need to make an entry and a computer isn't available, but it's sooo... much faster and easier using software!
